Not sure about the rim on the reverse by the E and D in ONE DOLLAR. The obverse has a small brown spot on the cheek. Also appears to be a very slight cut in the field to the right of the 4 in the date.
this is what i see from the pic. anyways, it very well could be a PR70 coin. It does have wiggle room. Thats why resubmission, crossovers, etc exist.
From looking at most photos, it's difficult for anyone to see any minute imperfection that could lower the grade.
One of two reasons. Either under high magnification there are ANY marks and imperfections ( the close-ups) or the one reason few realize, PCGS and NGC only assign a perfect grade to coins still in their as issued holder/container.
I think if you look at what I and other members have pointed out it's clear that as nice looking as this coin is, it's just not a 70. The 69 assigned is correct.
Pickee, Pickee. I like Ike. Great President and the coin is a great coin. My father left me about 7 Ikes and none are even an MS.
This is not accurate at all. Whether you submit it in a flip or the OGP has absolutely no baring on what grade they will give something other than if damage happened during travel.
I have coins still in their original holder/container, as issued, and they are not in the MS-67 range, let alone a 70. The coin is graded, not how it was issued or packaged.
With a proof mintage of 1,300,000, the odds are small that after only about a dozen PF70DCAM have been graded by PCGS, you will have the luck of ever getting one. The Mint just didn't have the technology in those days to strike such a large, perfect coin. Also, even if they had struck more perfect examples, their ability to handle, package, and transport them without some damage along the way, was slim. Then there's the task of the grading procedure, where even more damage can occur.
Because the individuals grading the coin couldn't decide between a 68 and a 70, so they split the difference? I agree it is a magnificent example of the series and wonder what the other TPG might have to say about it.
