the tellers at the bank i go to near work will not give me anything... i mean nothing. i wanted to try hunting some rolls, they refused to order me a box. one teller had some ike dollars, and i asked for them and she said "oh i dont have any" but then the next guy walked up and asked for some and she gave them all to him, and some old red inked bills. he didnt even have an account. i hate to throw this charge out there, but i work in a not so good area of town, and we can say i was the odd person out in the line. i got hosed. i dont get off early enough to go to any other banks :(

okay, time to write a letter to their main office!

I am never one to use the 'D' word (discrimination) but this is a clear casse of it.

Believe it or not I called around and found a bank in another town that I had never been to that had a box I could buy. I figured this might be my best way to break my streak. Instead the streak is now 11 boxes in a row without silver....

    Kennedy half Proofs from circulation:

I started searching halves around June 1 and have found a bunch of proofs. I thought it would be cool to get a set of proofs from circulation. Some, not in very good shape, but all have the s mint mark. Here is what I've got so far:

    71 (2)
    72 (3)
    73
    74
    76 (4 clad, 1 silver clad)
    77 (4)
    78
    79 (2 type I and 14 type II)
    80
    81 (3)
    83 (3)
    85
    86
    88 (3)
    91 (2)
    92
    93
    94
    02
    03 (3)
    04
    05 (2)
    09

If anyone have extras and want to trade for my extras, PM me.

I've got a good start, and think it would be cool to complete the set through roll searching. This could be fun....

    Bobbeth,
Thats sounds like a lot of fun. I have searched about 12 boxes total and only came across one proof (a 1971). But I did hang onto it and I might give this idea a shot if I come across more.

    I'm waiting on my box to come in Friday. . . . . . .

So far I have 3 half proofs (73, 74 & 08) from rollsearching & one in my regular collection (76 silver). I have also (as stated before) found a 74 Ike proof (current Avatar).

I have searched one box and $240 in rolls of halves since I joined this forum I found an 81s proof and 6 40%, which I feel isn't too bad. I am just woundering why I haven't found any proofs in the 16 boxes of cents or the nearly $1000 in nickels I have searched? It seems people find alot of Proof Half Dollars but I have never about it with other denominations. Just curious. Kent

It's been a couple of weeks since I posted, but I found something post-worthy so I thought I'd share. I have not been able to search much in the last couple of weeks, but I did get an MA thesis chapter completed. I did search through a box of pennies and a box of nickels, without great results... a few wheats, one war nickel, etc.

I got $100 in nickels yesterday and $25 in pennies. Haven't opened any of the pennies yet, but in the first roll of nickels I found:

    2 x V Nickels a 1907 and a 1899
    2 x Buffalo Nickels 1937 in xf and 1920 in f
    1 x Silver war nickel

They all had remnants of paper and elmer's glue on them, so they must have been part of someone's type set collection. I went through another four rolls or so without finding anything more. The V's are very pretty smooth, but then I only paid a nickel for them...
Those are the first V nickels my daughter and I have found in rolls. The buffalos were my third and fourth. Surprisingly, all four buffalos I have found so far have readable dates - these two were very nice.

Erin, you're having awful luck on your boxes. It's making me feel "not so bad" about not having time to half hunt so much the past few weeks.

That bunch of dimes that was found a week or so ago was amazing. I have never found a SINGLE silver dime in circulation, let alone a merc - or dozens of mercs.

Best wishes all. I'll let you know if I find anything else interesting in the rest of the nickels.

    I HATE this!!!!!!

stopped by a bank, no halves, but I could see in her tray a silver quarter. So, I asked for 4 quarters, and she put it aside and gave me other ones. I asked if she was saving that one for someone and she said, "No, it's mine, it's old."

THEN WHY WAS IT IN YOUR TRAY TEASING ME??????

    OK, I feel better now....

I went through $100 in dimes no silver ( no silver dimes ever or '09) and $40 in nickels added 1 to my circulated set but no silver. I have a box cents for my nephew to help with Saturday. Still wondering why there are no proofs in other denominations than halves found in rolls at least I never hear of it.

Well, I went through the other 49 rolls - decent but nothing like the first roll. I suspected I wouldn't find any more since there were exactly two V Nickels (with glue on opposites sides), two buffalo nickels with glue on both sides, etc.

The final results from the box were:

    Those two V's 1899, 1907
    The two buffs: 1937, 1920
    2x39
    Four silvers: 43P, 44Px2, 44S
    Six others from the 1940s
    Ten from the 1950s

Sure was surprised to see the V Nickels, though. Never found one in circulation before...
