Just curious how much extra people might have been spending on coins the last year due to everything else being locked down. I was wondering if you wanted to share if you believe your coin budget will go up, down, or remain the same after we are able to go on family vacations, (I know the Mouse likes his money), restaurants are all open again, people will have to commute to work again, etc. I am simply wondering if this will put a damper on the collectibles market. Myself, it will probably have to go down. Wife and kids want to go to Orlando, she wants to go to Thailand, and a friend wants us to go to Egypt with them.
Yeah... same here I bought about 30% more coins online in the lockdown period than before, I'm trying to throttle back on it a bit now. (Trying, LOL)
I haven't been to my coin shop in almost a year now I was on an ebay buying spree for Christmas and my birthday.
Lol yeah. I just went to visit my sister where I have some shipments sent. It was kind of shocking when I tallied up what I spent on those packages. Shocking to her as well. At least I have my avatar in my hands now. Really pretty coin.
I think my expenditures for 2021 will go down by at least 20% for several reasons: - Big tax hit for me this year. - Some un-reimbursed medical expenses this year that we didn't have in 2020. - Expecting to see some new tax legislation this year, including some retroactive stuff so am being a bit more conservative. - I spent 2020 in lots of on-line auctions, etc. filling up on mid and higher-end coins and a lot of those needs are now completed. - Remaining coin needs to fill current collecting pursuits all tend to be either higher-priced or harder-to-find or both.
Covid has not affected my coin buying. In fact, it hasn't changed my buying habits at all. I just buy more online than I used to, except for coins and food.
What is this "BUDGET" you speak of? I buy coins when I see one that fits into my collection. I don't have deep pockets like @panzerman but I buy/bid. If I pay interest on a CC for a few months, I just think of the pleasure the coin(s) are bring me. Small price to pay. As Lester Merkin once said "Sometimes the opportunity to buy a rare coin is rarer than the coin". I thank @Fred Weinberg for reviving that quote.
My budget has remained the same. I buy every week other wise I get the silver shakes. What I buy depends on what is available that day. If I go over one week I cut back a little the next week. If I spend under then I have a little extra next time.
