Does anyone know where I can find one of these in high grade for sale? If not, does anyone know a dealer who specializes in rare medals who could help me locate one? The medal I am looking for is the Surrender at Yorktown Medal 1881. The medal was struck to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle at Yorktown. The medal depicts the busts of Washington and Lafayette accolated right, the date 1881 under the busts. Below the date "Design Patented July 12, 1881." Around: Centennial Yorktown Va.. Reverse: Design representing the surrender and the medal was engraved by P.L. Krider of Philadelphia. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You could try Hedley Betts. I have known him to have some pretty extravagent medals. You could try calling him up or emailing him.
Hello,I am not a dealer I am a ordinary person who just so happened to stumble upon one of these Surrender at Yorktown medallions.I know roughly what its value is and really it has no value to me.Where it may to you.I would like to sell to someone who can truly appreciate it.
I have already acquired one of these medals for my collection (see linked thread below) but if you are looking to sell your medal and have a decent photo, I suggest placing it up for sale in the Open section of the forum. It is a very cool item and my bet is that others on this site might be interested in owning one. http://www.cointalk.com/t70401/
Yorktown medal A man came in to our library to find out how much a bronze medal like this is worth- it is not white metal, but bronze. He had a color copy of the medal, and we narrowed it down to the Krider 1881 Yorktown Surrender Centennial medal. I could not locate a valuation on the Internet, and hope someone can tell us how much it is worth. We value his privacy. Please contact nppublib@pa.net, and I will let you know how you can contact him. Thank you, Jeanne Heicher, Library Director
