i have been collecting toned coins here and there since i started my colletion. i have quite a few slabbed and raw toned beauties. today i was able to pick up my first slabbed coin with the star( * ) designation. this is a first of hopefully many. i have a bunch i want to send in to be slabbed that might qualify. enjoy:D

The NGC Star Designation identifies coins with exceptional eye appeal or characteristics that distinguish them from other coins of the same technical grade. This does not mean that they just miss the next grade, but it can mean that they verge on the next designation. For example, an untoned PF 65[IMG] Cameo coin is not necessarily close to the PF 66 grade, but may be close to an Ultra Cameo designation.

Did you buy it from TonedCoinTrader? Or did you take those pictures yourself? Only reason I ask is that those are how his pictures look, and that is the lighting source(s) he uses :)
Very nice by the way! Glad you enjoy it!

Yep only problem with doing that, with coins, is that you will get the details just fine, but the color and luster will be way off

Actually, if you do it just right you can pick up the color and the luster properly. But, it can be just as hard as photographing them.

You would have to have the right scanner as wel (A good one)
The DPI would have to be set pretty high as well.

I don't know, I have seen some scans GD has posted using a very old scanner and he has some very nice images. I have tried the technique he described with my new scanner and can't get the same quality...but he has mastered it. His images are really good. If I can find a link, I will post it because it is amazing.

Edit: Found it, look at post #9 here: http://www.cointalk.com/t55290/

Ill repost that coin because damn its beautiful!

Then I wanted to know if you used the NGC "conservation" service or what ever they call it, the coin looks much cleaner in the holder than before. If so can I see the coin front as well please!? Thanks, and to qualify again what everyone else has said, ENJOY, beautifulllll coin.
