I paid full Krause price for a couple Mexican coins at a recent coin show. (That would usually seem crazy but I liked them.) 1947 20 Centavos ($6) (labeled Unc) 1959 50 Centavos ($3) (labeled BU) http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss297/charlienorth/coins/PICT0003.jpg http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss297/charlienorth/coins/PICT0005.jpg
Great coins! The 20-centavo design has always been one of my favorites from that country. It would have been nice if they had used that design on a silver coin.
I agree that some of the Mexican designs are stellar, especially the 20 centavos one, with the cap and rays, in talking to some coworkers they had fond memories back in Mex, of getting one of those 20 centavos from their papi for a treat.
I just checked some of my coins, and I found the cap and rays motif was also used in the one peso coin from 1926 and 1933, and the 50 centavo coin from 1900. the one peso was .720 silver, the 50 centavo was .800 silver.
I love Mexican coins, especially the gold and silver ones. here is one of my favorite Mexicans, an 1888 with 5 eights on the Obverse. 8 reales/1888/ chop mark of a Chinese 8. Traci
Excellent condition coins! I collect Mexican coinage up to 1976 and have a large # of the 20 cent pieces, as I seem to come across them in un-circulated condition at very decent prices. My oldest piece so far are 1848 8 Reales!
Nice Mexican coins!! I absolutely do not pay much attention to any catalogue pricing when I see something I really like. Coins from other countries are amazing!. I really love coins from all over the world and expecially Mexico. I think you got a great deal, as long as you are happy with your purchase that's really all that matters. :thumb:
Thank you all for the kind words and for sharing some of your coins. I got the urge to buy some Mexican coins after seeing a post about a good looking 5 centavos coin. I didn't find one so will still be looking for one. Now you people have posted pictures of more coins that I previously didn't know that I NEEDED!
