Thoughts on my raw Ikes? They got their first acetone baths since at least 7-8-1980 when my father purchased them. Heck, he may have skipped the bath since shoving into PVC flips was normal back then.

Oh well, what are your thoughts on the coins? Are any worth sending in or just stick in a Dansco and call it a day?

Ya want it graded, buy it graded........leave 'em be. I like 'em the way they are. Just one humble opinion. :)

Here's my only reasoning. If one could go 66 then for a $35 investment that can get an official number in plastic. We all know to judge a coin based on the coin, but when it comes time to sell a plastic slab, a number from a TPG will go higher than a raw coin even if both were identical coins.

I'd go the Dansco route. The 3rd '73 appears to be the best of the trio.

I think I can finish it tonight. That is unless I want to MS70 the proofs to remove the haze. The only other is deciding which coin out of duplicates to put in the album.

Monetarily I don't think any would be a 66 for that date, but I would grade them since you said your father bought them. That's the type of coin I would hang onto forever.

But if you are going to hang onto them forever, why pbother going to the expense of grading them? Put them in a Coin World shell to protect them and save the money.

I just prefer mine graded and like the PCGS clear slab over the coinworld ones. If they had a clear version I would certainly consider it.

All of those are heavily circulated. A stackable group.

IMO, unless your objective is simply protection, they would have to grade at MS65 or higher just to cover grading fees. Not a wise investment given the degree of circulation that can be seen in the photos. Good luck.

These coins didn't circulate. They were only included in mint sets for that year. What you are seeing is annealing drum "chatter" - marks on the blank planchet that didn't strike out.

I stand corrected. That said, do you think they would grade MS65 or higher?

I agree with the chatter, but the way the Mint handled them in those days was deplorable. The last example may grade a 65, but still not worth the grading fees these days. Just put them in a capsule and enjoy them.

I think the first and third coin have a shot. For a comparison, here is the 1973 in my registry set. It’s a 65 with CAC and QA approval. It is premium quality for sure. There is virtually no chatter on this coin- very uncommon for a 1973 Philly.

Should be in a 66 holder?
