Okay, last one today. This one is a 1967 LMC on a split planchet. Weighing in at a mere 1.8g, it's half of itself (okay, just over half). I do wish I had the other half. 20210329_120141.jpg 20210329_120116.jpg 20210329_120054.jpg 20210329_120034.jpg 20210329_120015.jpg

    There are two types.
Struck on Split Planchet and Split after it was Struck.
    Yours is the latter.

Most of the members here know I'm certainly no expert on errors or varieties, but to my untrained eye, and only having the photos, it looks like a PMD coin. If it lost the reverse due to splitting, would you still see the raised rim? Please school me to help this ignorant old man.

Basically, its a large lamination that split off after striking. The fabric or pattern on the reverse is what you would expect to see on the exposed surface of a missing lamination piece, only this time on a larger scale. Look at the link and also pics of missing laminations and you'll start to recognize the pattern/appearance

Yes you would. Here's a Nickel from my collection, both Halves. As Paddy said, this split after it was minted. Mine is mated and slabbed but you can still see the rim on both pieces. It's also a silver war nickel. IMG_2950.JPG IMG_2951.JPG IMG_2954.JPG IMG_2956.JPG IMG_2957.JPG IMG_2958.JPG

Your welcome. Hope it helped. And yes, it's very nice to have both halves. I have half of a shield cent. Sure wish I had the other half of that one. :)
