    Hello,

My daughter and I are very new to collecting coins. Actually we have never collected coins. My grandfather left me a bag of old miscellaneous coins and as we were looking through them my daughter found this buffalo nickel and asked why it was different. I don't have a clue so I thought I would post a picture on here and see what the experts had to say about it.

This nickel has a circle under it's belly and none of the others have it. Can anybody explain how it got there? I apologize for the bad pic, I not any good with a camera.

    Hi,

It was added post Mint and as such is a damage of some sort. The metal has been moved under the circle so I suspect a punch was used.

    Thanks,
    Bill
