Greetings Everyone!. Somehow, somewhere in my coin buying madness I acquired nearly 35 pounds of circulated world coins! And I don't remember buying them lol..Sometimes I think I need help. :) I may even form a Coin Hotline Thread next, where I can talk to other members in real time, to talk the credit card out of my hand . You know the buddy system;)

Anyways my son has been noodling through them and picked out about 900 he likes lol. Those are the ones in cases. The dates thus far have revealed coins dating from the late 1800s and up. A lot of the older ones seem to be in pretty good shape. My question is are there any particular coins from certain countries we should look for. We have found a few older silver coins and are definitely on the look out for those. Any help on where to start would be helpful . Thanks all. We will post photos of the the older coins and others we find Interesting. Thank you all in advance.

    Wow. Just.... wow!

I've got a hand-me-down collection of lots of world coins. I recognize many of them. I'm having a lot of fun cataloging and researching everyone in my spare time. Hope you have lots of fun.

I am thinking World Coins will be the next Giveaway Contest. It would take years to go through these :)

The old one with the square in the middle. Asian origin? There are probably a hundred or more of those. Or the other ancient looking one?

That one looks like Qing Dynasty, but there are similar coins from Japan and Korea and a few other places. If we get a good look we could say. This one looks like a Japanese Kan'ei Tsuhou. There are several different reverse types.

Oh my gosh lol. First that amazing hoard of proof sets and now this? :woot: If I were you, I would take out all of the silver coins and put them in 2x2s. That’s how I keep my silver world coins. Very nice collection indeed, would be absolutely amazing to search that haha.

Oh, and this one is a Qian Long 1 cash, 1735-96.
He ruled a long time and it is one of the more common Qing coins.
That one actually looks in reasonably nice shape.

I grabbed a handful of the top and laid some out. I know its fun scanning over them. 20210327_004139.jpg 20210327_004133.jpg 20210327_004129.jpg

Thanks so much. I know very little about them but will definitely study the history now that I know where to start.:)

If you're not bored yet, here's one more:
This is a late Qing Dynasty 1 Cash, minted instead of cast.
    Emperor Guangxu 1889-90
The 廣 indicates it was minted in Guangdong.

If you are interested in Asian 1 cash coins, and want to spread them out with the top side (4 characters) facing up, most of them are easy to ID. The reverse gives the mint location in Manchu script if they are from the Qing Dynasty. Earlier cash (which are scarcer) are often blank on the reverse.

Thank you. I will grab some of the ones I find and post pics of both sides for identification tomorrow. I look forward to the history lesson. These Asian cash coins and the Asian culture facinate me:) Thanks again.

If the ones you highlighted are representative then it looks like a good group. Generally I pull out anything 1940s and earlier and anything from unusual places, like Africa and colonies that don't exist anymore.

Beautiful. It would be sweet to mount them in a poster frame by designs or time periods.

Lots of good coins in that bunch! I especially like the 1988 50 Drachmas from Greece. It's not worth much, but who cares? It should have a bust of Homer on the obverse if memory serves.

Excellent advice thank you. Other than there not being as much silver as I would have liked. So far it doesn't seem like a bad batch. Alot of interesting coins and fun to noodle through.
