Hey there... I could use some help. I have been trading with a fellow CT member from another country. She sent me some wonderful coins. My quandry is a single coin. If I have attributed this coin correctly, then it is worth about $60, a price I can't afford to match to be fair. Would you be so kind as to double check my attribution and see if I'm correct? E41 AH1371 (1951) Morocco 10 Francs Aluminum-bronze Or is it: Y#49?
If it's actually 20mm wide, it sure looks like Y#49 to me, which is valued at <$2 for circulated coins by the 2008 35th Ed. SCWC . What is the alternative you are trying to check? I am familiar with Y#s, C#s, and KM#s, and a number of specialty catalog designations, but "E41" means nothing to me.
It was a very confusing section a few pages past the Y49 entry. It had no real Krause numbers or grading values at all. The more I look at the coin, though, the more I believe you are right. That's a relief.
Essais are difficult to define. They are almost a cross between proofs and patterns, generally from French-speaking countries. Babelfish translates the word as "test". As indicated in the SCWC E41 is based on Y#49.
