Well, unfortunately the walls are not perfectly lined up so I actually had to take a long ruler and use the door molding to help me figure out where to start with a straight line. Closest to the walls, particularly on the left side, I had to start grinding some coins on their left side so they would fit snug against the wall. Then I'm just going to use a nice floor molding to make it look nice and flush. Other prep work included having to Mix some concrete to self level the floor.
Like I said, not surprising at all. Happens in multi million dollar shacks too. Come to think of it, yours might be one of those MMDS's. I haven't seen anything but that floor.
Multi Million Dollar Shack...comes with the 'book deals'. I agree with @masterswimmer ...you can't rely on square angles in a home of any price. I spent significant time trying to correct issues. Glad it only required a bit of grinding but as you note, once you add the trim back in it should finish it off.
I would do a poly grout, But make sure that you don't get to far ahead of yourself. It is going to take multiple cleans with fresh water. Multi Million Dollar Shacks. You might find a restaurant supply for the epoxy. Might be cheaper than the depot. By the way, Cool floor!
You’ve put together a beautiful piece! As long as there’s no sunlight or other sources of ultraviolet light hitting the epoxy and the surface isn’t too physically abused, you should be fine for at least 15 years, if not much longer. Epoxy is going to be the most durable, pocketbook-friendly choice, but UV is it’s Achilles’ heel. However, if there is potential for UV exposure there are formulations available that address that, too.
3 comments I suppose..... 1. Fantastic Job! Likely a clear epoxy to seal it and protect it is the best option. 2. I hope you don't rent. 3. When do you move on to the walls and ceiling?
Fantastic, now, what's next? Question, did you keep count of the cents? Patience, it takes more than patience. Add fortitude, diligence, and desire. Congratulations.
Greetings from the future year 4965 we found this art work in the what was known as the eastern us. First found by quip universities from a-6nas-2 aprox 6 foot deep in the jungle of what was a Dakoda museum. DNA that was on all of the disks was reconstructed and sent to all other planets and earth for starting population diversity so badly needed. In doing so saved quadrillions of life's. ps he used a black back ground with a epoxy over coat. I am closing this portal good luck all you will need it. un-134-177.
Very cool Joe. After you sell the house, the new owners will decided to put a hard wood floor over it and then subsequent owners will do a remodel and discover it and want to know the story, so you should include a time capsule explaining your plan. LOL
This is the first entry on Coin Talk that I liked from the first entry to the last. The amount of thought and work is unbelievable. The entries from the first to that last are funny, thoughtful, and helpful. Be sure to help when he is at another project or to finish this one. I have seen mosaic floors in bathrooms and some bedrooms. This one takes the cake, so to speak. I hope all is well when you are finished and also, I hope you will let us know when you finish this project and for all others that you do. You are very creative. My wife was an English teacher for 34 yours. I have been married to her for 25 years and I find that teachers are creative and fun to be married to. She is now, redecorating our home in the city that has been renovated twice before. We live in her mother's trailer now because her mother left us 4 dogs and 2 cats and with her pets, we can't live in the city. Best of luck and again, thanks for everything.
