"The story of the american banknote company" I have been thinking about picking this up for a few days and today went on amazon and pulled the trigger. I should have it by friday and will show actual shots when it comes in. I know this will be a great reference book and historical piece of printing in the USA.
Darryl... You will love it! That is also in my personal library. The embossed vignettes within it's pages are but simply wonderful! It establishes the Leadership flow charts as well for the Presidents of the Corp. Fantastic Book...our libraries are getting more and more similar each day!! The Vignette featured on the cover is Titled "Progress" Nice buy!! RickieB
You'll love the book,I picked it up on ebay about 10 years ago, vignettes are premo and a good read, mine came with a clear plastic cover so you can see the vignette on the cover & protects the book as well. If you have a good macro lens on your camera you can get some nice vignette pictures !
I really enjoyed it, but I don't own it. I got a copy from the library on ILL when RickyB announced the last contest. Figured there might be some questions that it would help answer :goofer:
Now.... since quite a few of my library books are known and owned...the contest's when they appear will be based on newer information, not contained within the pages owned by so many of you now...It is time to get sneaky... RickieB
Darryl...there are pages in this book that are made of different papers...I only use cotton or nitril gloves when reading mine or browsing through the vignette pages.. Just a suggestion for you! RickieB
Good Suggestion Ricky, I didn't know that & have been handling the book bare handed ,even when taking macro pictures,is it vellum paper similar to the Am.BNCo's Archive series !987 Thur 1992. I aways wash my hands before handling those but using gloves is a good idea !
Connor1... I am not sure of the papers composition, however, it is of such quality that the embossing of the vignettes is a lasting impression upon it. You can feel the raised portion of the vignettes if you gently graze your fingertip across it. It is drastically different than the printed pages both in texture and color. RickieB
Great book, there's a few very nice scans of it online that I found! The Amazon price is pretty insane for it though, starting at $70.00.
The 70 price is a good one and after that last copy is gone the cheepest after that I could find is 150. The 8 pages printed front and back with the vignettes is special paper that the abnc used when printing. I read it in more than one place that those 8 pages are special linen type pages. I hope the previous owner treated them delicately! I already have cotton gloves at home and was planning just that for this book and any vignettes I happen to pick up along the way. Thanks!
Curiously the vignette on the front cover was used on a lot of stocks and bonds, and a few issues of paper money, most notably the Yugoslavian issues of 1920.
Progress? how about safety? that dude aint wearing any drawers and he's turning that big honkin wheel thats got spokes!! LOL
Statue of Liberty Vignette This is a vignette of the Statue of Liberty that's in the book "The History of the ABNCo.
