No problem, it's just sometimes hard to tell if someone is being sarcastic, humorous, or confrontational when it soley comes down to plain text.

I kinda realized after reading your reply a few times that it was somewhat in jest but it wasn't easy for me to tell right off the bat.

    Anyway, nothing personal ;)

BNB, do you really feel you are qualified to give "newer" people investment advice?

I'm *REALLY* not trying to be mean or snarky here, but after reading your posts for the past 2 months (since I joined), I don't believe you to be qualified to give a Cub Scout advice on putting together a circulated Lincoln Memorial set in a cardboard folder. Much less investment advice on high-end coins.

Please don't consider this a slap in the face type of reply, but you are close to my age and I feel I can be a bit more upfront with you then some of the older crowd here. And I don't believe you have the knowledge, research background or grading skill (as of yet) to give advice.

You need stick around and learn more before becoming a self-professed expert. Buy a couple (or a 100) books before offering anyone advice. Learn to listen, absorb and then channel that knowledge into compitent replies, so others can see you ARE qualified to gve advice.

And I say all of this with your (any anyone whom you would be giving coin investment advice) best interests at heart.

Instead of question my ability / intentions / integrity, try to take the positive slant on this one instead. Maybe I want to help others by sharing my experiences so far in the coin industry. Is that wrong, absolutely not.

I am not here to be a self proclaimed expert. That's not true. What I'm not going to do is teach people the grading standards / techniques the ANA / PCGS uses or try to tell someone the history behind a certain cent or determine the copper value in one coin or the other.

I believe in giving back in anyway I can; even if that means sharing my experience thus far with someone just to show I am contributing to the forum in some way other than taking from it.

BNB, Please make sure you finish college and get the few credits you need to graduate. That really does mean a lot and will help you later in life. Good luck in whatever you do.

    Wow, that was quick.

Tell me, was it the Walker grade that put you over the edge?

I do like your intent to share your experiences with others (that's what most of us are here for too!)

    Good luck....Mike

Heh, well said? But she didn't even hit the target.

I am not offering to help people learn how to grade coins and etc.

I am just going to be here to share my experience thus far with what I have learned thus far.

Not at all, I just fulfilled my quota.

I don't understand. Would you explain?

What was the realization that drove you to this decision?

    BNB,

    Here's why I'm asking.

I went through a similar realization not long after I sold a few coins.

I suspect you recall my (and others) prodding you on this topic over the past few months. A message that you were not AT ALL receptive to -- but one that I suspect you have now learned. Selling a few coins is an eye-opening experience, and making money at them is not easy.

I don't bring this up to pat myself on the back, or tell you that I told you so, but rather in hopes that you realize that the intent of many of us in being so vocal in your threads was to try and share our own experience to help you avoid pitfalls that we have all befallen.

And it seems to me with your post, you're trying to turn a corner, and recognize this isn't so easy after all. I hope you do too...Mike

And there is so much more to be learned my friend. I admire your confidence and bravado, but still at the age of 24 you are by no means an expert on investing.

    BnB:

You admitted that your grading isnt the best...so, how do you expect to tell a newb what coins to buy if you can't grade?

BNB, you have many flaws in your argument and are digging yourself into a deeper hole. The only advice you should be giving is how not to be like yourself. You can tell people not to buy key and semi-key date coins without sufficient knowledge as you have done in the past. Also, it was interesting to read about your recent gold nugget purchase. You purchased 1/4oz of gold nuggets above spot and you weren't even aware of their purity, and you still needed to buy a scale. You said you would sell them at coin shows. But, now you are not going to be able to do this since you're "taking a break". How will you recoup the money you have spent? If you sell on eBay you'll loose money due to fees. You seriously had not taken the time to investigate your purchases and make sure you made a good deal. Speaking of good deals, eBay is usually not the place to find them. If you spent a little more time and effort going to coin shops, shows, and looking at classified sections on the internet or your community, you would be a much more successful entrepreneur. Now, you're saying you want to teach others about coins? About how much copper is in a cent? This is trivial and easy to find out so don't preach about your vast common knowledge like you're some expert. Please follow other people's advice before unloading your own. Should a preschooler be teaching their teacher? NO! And you shouldn't give advice to others unless you really know what you're talking about.

well, the word expert is really not a great one because a lot of so called "experts" lose their client's money but hey, it's all apart of the game right?

alls i know is i started with a mild account size, turned it into a comfortable amount, had left overs for play, and bought lots of coins.

    can you say that's qualified?

I'll have to read over your threads then. When I first got here, the community said "buy the coin, not the slab."

It seems wierd that they would contradict themselves, but we do have different members here now.

It's so hilarious that the people who say my argument is flawed are the ones who are just projecting their own flawed arguments onto me.

Isn't it funny how the world works?

    Look, folks, I'm a fighter.

I don't care what your title in life is, I don't kiss anyone's behind.(And I see a good deal of that going around here with all due respect)

That might strike a nerve to some of you because you may see that as me being an "ungrateful" newbie, but guess what.. i'm not. I greatly appreciate all the good advice, but what I don't like is when people start attacking me for my character like this guy just did. It's uncalled for, completely. I just came here being nice. Some of you are at your own fault for turning this into a negative nancy thread.

Sorry, but do some of you not realize how silly you sound when you make these personal character assassinations towards me? Just give it up already cause I'll just fight back ten times harder. You speak like you've known me for years(even though we haven't even spoke once) and 90% of it is just flat out wrong or it's just an unreasonable expectation. You're not going to humiliate me and try to push forth your own personal agenda on me, no way, no how.

Invest in? No coins are the best to invest in, lets put it that way. The younger people, or newer collectors will still do what they want to, and make hasty decisions, or they will find a good mentor and learn, regardless of what you do.
There is no reason to stop what you are doing, BNB. If you can keep doing what you are doing, why stop? You've said yourself you don't want to learn how to grade, and I believe you've said that you are just an investor in coins. Why stop? If you think that investing in the more expensive coins are worth it, then go for it! Nobody here is stopping you, but it is great that you've gained at least some perspective on what you want to collect, I guess?
