A very recent experience with CGB Numismatics in Paris: I purchased a coin from them on Sunday, through MA-Shops. They shipped the package to me on Monday, via Federal Express, for their standard shipping charge (about $13.50) -- I had confirmed with them that they weren't planning just to send it by regular international mail. It arrived today at my apartment in New York City, so within 48 hours. I am very pleased with their service, needless to say! Just as fast as DHL Express, for about half the price.
Upon @Cucumbor 's recommendation several years ago, I purchased some coins from them. I have been totally satisfied with everything concerning the coin, shipping, fees, etc. No issues.
I have had consistently good service from them and have always been pleased with the quality of the coins I have received. Well....I had no luck in their recent auction...the one coin I really wanted hammered for wayyyyyy more than I was willing to spend Was anyone successful?
I have purchased from CGB multiple times and it has always been positive and very professional. I have received coins from them in just days.
I've never participated in any of their auctions; I've bought their coins only at fixed prices through MA-Shops.
Yes, I won a very rare Dombes douzain (third known example that year), lucky me at half the price I was ready to pay @DonnaML you can buy directly from them on their website, either at fixed price or at auction. They also run a weekly e-auction they don't advertise for, which, if you know quite well what you're looking for, can bring you good material from time to time. Not high end though Q
Do you know if they engage in price negotiating for their fixed price coins? I’ve never bought from them before so don’t want to offend if it’s not kosher.
I've never tried to negotiate their fixed prices -- I think they're mostly pretty reasonable. But it seems to me that the worst that could happen if you asked is that they'd say no. I doubt they'd refuse to sell you the coin!
Based on my experience, I purchased 2 for my collection from them at the end of last year. I was really surprised at the shipping speed. I believe it took about 2 weeks for the items to arrive. Everything was fine and as described on the coin listing, honestly after getting the coins in hand I felt the pictures didnt do them justice.
Many of the MA shop dealers have set the limits on how much they are willing to negotiate on each coin already, so if your offer is «offensively low» you get an automatic response. I think the software handles it very professionally and with no hard feelings.
Oh that’s interesting! I guess I should use MA shops then... I was just going to send them an email with each coins unique ID and propose a bulk offer.
