I thought I would post some Wheat Cents that I found in my early days of collecting, late 40's and early 50's.
I was very fortunate to be living during the end of classic coins. A time when any coin ever put in circulation could potentially end up in your change.
Indeed. Always cool to think of the "what ifs". I filled my wheaties book from change but only back to the '30s plus a few earliers. And this was in the late '60s, early '70s.
Thanks everyone. I found some real nice coins back then. They went through 2 world wars and probably sat in coffee cans for a long time. I started just after WW II when lots of good things were happening.
Wonderful display of coinage. To find something like those in circulation today would be an achievement, thanks for sharing.
This is fun! I just found a 1947 wheat penny in “decent” condition. Haha. Meaning I have next to no idea about grading other than what I’ve read about in the last half an hour. I know it isn’t a mint 70! But it’s got nice lines and form on the design and lettering. Overall wear, though. This is my very first post here. Everyone wants to know what their “special” coin is worth (please share your opinions on this one), but I’d also like to know if you all have favorite beginner references online that I could peruse so I don’t ask ALL the same questions... just most of them! Really, monetary worth is nice to hear and all, and my curiosity is piqued, but I just like this coin. Sometimes things just speak to you. You know? I’d love to see examples of coins that may not be worth big bucks, but just speak to you as a collector, and why. Cheers!
Jacob, welcome to CT. The proper protocol is to start your own thread with full size pictures of your coin in question. Coattailing on some else's thread is not going to get you the feedback you're looking for. People won't see your query. Again, welcome aboard.
Very nice coins. Collecting back then was very different than it is today. I was only a kid but I loved the coins you could find in circulation back then. Well done!
I think about what it would be like to be able to have lived then to get those coins, then I think about WWII, polio, mumps, the red scare the Cuban Missile crisis etc and then I think, no thanks, I'm good. I remember even when I was a kid in the 1970s wondering when the Russians were going to vaporize us. That said, nice coins - I have found similar dates from coin roll hunting, but not quite that nice though.
Beautiful wheats!! Whish I would have collected seriously back then! Oh well!!! 20 20 hind sight!!! LOL
