Numista-982. I do not know the Newcomb variety.

This piece is in lower grade (G4, I'd say), but is evenly worn with nice color and smooth surfaces, and no real distractions to speak of.

It wasn't a bad buy for 14 bucks, I figured.

Post your other cheap-ish (<$20) large cents, if you feel like it.

Hmmm less than $20, now I have to check and see if I have any that fit that price point.

This one was $11, bought it as a cull because of all the rim damage, but it has some really nice details otherwise... 20201015_195236.jpg 20201015_195338.jpg

Payed $7 a year ago. One of my favorite "damaged" coins.

I’m glad you posted that. I couldn’t remember who our resident “<$20 Large Cent Guy” was, off the top of my head*, so I laid out that sentence in the OP as bait, to bring you here. It worked! :p

(*Thought it was you, but couldn’t remember for sure.)

I’m seeing some nice cheapos posted here so far. Keep ‘em coming!

Will also add the large cent that is currently on my keychain. Bought it for $2 two years ago.

LOVE it! A man after my own holey coin heart. If you use those keys very often, though, that old cent is gonna lose some of its brown patina.

They have been in use for half a year now and still has most of it's patina. The coin is corroded to heck so I don't have a problem with it getting beaten down.

Holed coins are awesome, I have gotten lots of holed busts and large cents for nickels and quarters just cause they have problems.

My father bought this one for me to $10. I was last coin he gave me. It was from a flea market type dealer who was set up in conjunction with a country auction house. Of course the rest of the story is that this was more than 25 years ago.

I would grade this piece EF-40.

You are, of course, conservative. I’d go 45 on that. If not even AU. And, even given the passage of 25 years, I’d say your father made a very nice pickup indeed for ten bucks.

    Priceless now, of course.

I have to confess that I picked it out. My father went to this sale every week as part of his recreation. The dealer said that it was last week in business. If that was true, the price may have been influenced by that.

Yeah grading large cents is odd.. seems they get a little more leeway then most other coins.. I would call that AU53 to be honest :D

These were all found in the "bargain bin" at my LCS for $5 to $15. Bought them just because I love early copper.

Does anyone know about old coins having a large P and upside-down C imprinted on the face of a coin? I have a 1856 Large Cent with these imprints and cannot find anything about why they are there.

First, welcome to Coin Talk naomie.

Second, in order to get the most and accurate responses to your question you should start your own new thread. Coat tailing on someone else's thread is not considered good forum etiquette, but more important, you won't get nearly as many people to see your post.

    Again, welcome to CT.
