Searched a box of halves today and found:
    1 1964 :D
1 1987P in AU (this was the first time I've ever looked for the 87 as I didn't know it was of lower mintage until a few posts back)

At least it wasn't a shutout, and at least my one silver was a 90%er!

    I also searched 5 rolls of nickels and got a 47 and a 56.

Wow, you can drop 3 grand on boxes at once?

Nice finds. What is the deal with the coin that comes apart? Is it a magician's coin??

    Bobbeth87,
Hey, don't worry. I've been through 1000's of dollars worth of halves during the past two months knowing to look for the 87 and I have found...drum roll please...one. Compare that the the 180 silvers of various varieties, and I'd almost say the 87 should be worth a heck of lot more than it is! :)
Today I actually found my first ever full $500 box from the Fed. Until now I've been just taking what they can give me, usually in loose or hand rolled. I'm excited to give it a shot. Just two rolls in so far and already have 2004 and 2006 P, as well as a 2006 D.
    Tomorrows gonna be fun!

    Half Boxes

Of my last 10 half boxes (10000 coins), I have found a total of 18 silver halves. Yesterday, my kid has a soccer game out of town early in the morning. On the way back we stop by 6 banks.

Bank 1: $1 in halves, no silver.
    Bank 2: $2.50 in halves, 4 1964 90% Sweet condition
    Bank 3: No halves
    Bank 4: $8 in halves, 1 1964, 3 1968 and 2 1976S (First ever found)
    Bank 5: $30 in 3 rolls, 1 roll had 14 1967
    Bank 6: $2 in halves, 1 1966

So in a about 30 minutes and searching $43.50 (87 coins) I found 26 silver halves.

Hmmm 10000 coins to get 18 silver, or 87 coins to get 26 silver. I guess if not for the one box I found 77 silver in, I might give up box searching. But oh the lure of the unknown lol.

I hear you loud and clear amf! I have gone through about 15 boxes of halves and I have never had much luck. The best is 19 40%ers in one. Lately though I have been striking out on the boxes I have been getting and I live in Ft. Lauderdale. Sucks going through someone elses slugs. I can't complain though I was red hot for a couple weeks with customer wrapped rolls but that too has run cold latley.

Out of a roll of Lincoln cents recently, I got a not too bad 1919 P! As soon as I can, I will post pictures.

I assume I can go to my bank and ask for a box of coins??I got a box at one bank thursday but it was a brinks box that they gave me to put the 10 rolls of nickels I bought. Is the brinks box what I will get if I ask for a box?? Just asking

Hey man. You may get a Brinks box, a Dunbar box, or even a Fed box. Even if it is a Fed box, it may still just be a number of circulated coins.
The banks get them from various distributors...it just depends on your bank. All are worth searching though! May not be the quality of the hand rolled coins turned in by the little old lady in small town America, but there's often at least a little treasure. Good luck!
