A local dealer offered me $495 for each one. eBay is the place to sell ?, your opinion pls.

I collect FS coins and recently bought a couple Abigail Adams proofs on eBay for $530 each. If that sounds like a reasonable offer, let me know.

That's about typical for most dealers. My local dealer will pay me 97% of the melt value for these. But remember, these coins are .9999 pure gold!! Melted they are worth $522 each based on current gold prices, and typically proof gold goes for a little more.

You should be able to get melt value from these at least if you posted them for sale here on the Open forum or on any other coin message boards you belong too as a fellow collector may be looking to pick up some gold. Cut out the middleman and sell them yourself!!

Of course, if you try eBay, the fees and time involved in selling may significantly cut into your profit to where you might end up in the same place as the dealer's offer. But I would think that you could definitely do better than that selling without any expense except shipping here on the boards.

As far as values, the Washington and Adams proofs wouldn't go for too much more than melt value, even on eBay, but the selling price would probably be between $525-$550 per coin. Of course you would have to pay eBay/PayPal/shipping fees from that price. The Jefferson proof is a little bit more popular of a coin and will be much easier to sell than the Washington and Adams. You should be able to get $550 for that I'd think, especially if you have all of the original packaging they came with (boxes, slipcases, certificates).

I agree, give ebay a try, if you put a reserve on it, you can always go back to the other offer.

I thank you all very much. I have been offered a very decent offer on this page, and will contact you after I get back. Got a job interview in Baltimore. Wish me good luck.
