I just ordered a billon argentus from H.J. Berk. Or did I?

Several books talk about stuff from the Codex Theodosianus

check out Harl's Coinage in the Roman Economy

    and

Hendy's Studies in the Byzantine Monetary Economy c.300- 1400

Yes, these coins were struck in Trier; which was Constantine's capitol...so issued by Constantine.

    Thanks Victor.
I need to get Harl, I have seen his book being refered to several times.
Does RIC provide you with all that you need when it comes to catalogs, or do you have others that you prefer?

Here's my RIC 208, which looks silver as well... VII Trier 208a Constantinus Aug argenteus VLPP 12-1738.jpg

Lot of factors involved there, but there are plenty of specialists works. Talking about 3-4th century for example, if a coin is from Lyons, you should check Bastien. If London, check Cloke and Toone, if Arles check Ferrando, if a coin was issued by Maxentius check Drost, coin from Aquileia check Sagramora, coin from Milan check Toffanin, is it a BEATA from Trier then check Alten and Zschuke; but generally, yes RIC VI and VII are the best references for the period; though I might check several other references.

Sometimes it is hard to separate low grade silver coins and the really low grade ones that have suffered differently in the many centuries.

I think your Licinius is nice, Doug. But I believe that it is not the RIC 208 b type (or rather RIC VI 825), as the mintmark looks like S TR?

Here's the RIC 825 billon argenteus for Licinius:

I had the privilege of meeting Ken Harl last year, and he told me he's working on a second edition!

    Sweet.
They sold a really nice one of the type that Doug posted on Naville today. Hammer was £70+19%. I was back and forth about going for it, but there was another coin that I wanted even more.
Would it be best to wait for the second edition? It could take years before it’s out?

Maybe grab a used first edition cheap, or get it from the library... I don't think the next edition will be out for a few years.
