I have admired the colored coins, but I don't think I would pay a premium price for one. My personal opinion is that the colored coins are some coins that may have scratches that need to be covered up. Paint would be a good fill.
A coin issued by the Mint is deliberately altered - how can you deny that it has been damaged? I absolutely do not have to learn to appreciate (correct spelling) graffiti, whether on a bridge, a wall, or a coin!

10 years ago the statehood quarters got me back into collecting coins, but I have a really hard time paying a premium to have a coin that is always only going to be worth its face value..but thats me...enjoy
