How many people are gonna pick ANACS, ICG, and DGS? hah lol Goes down to NGC and PCGS, and sometimes it is just about how the coin looks in the plastic.
NGC - vs - PCGS encil: NGC - vs - PCGS --SIMI LIVE FROM COINTALK -- !!BATTLE OF THE SUPREMES!! ?WHO WILL BE VICTORIOUS? I USE TO BE INDECISIVE BUT NOW I AM NOT SURE. :rolling: I WOULD PURCHASE BOTH AND BE HESITANT TO DO SO WITH ANY OTHERS. THEREFORE I HAVE VOTED DECISIVELY…I THINK.
I liked them more when they where up the street form me in austin ANACS made me mad when they graded a nice proof half dime for me, and when i tried to cross it over to NGC it came back as cleaned ? ;(
I voted PCGS, but it's like 51% vs 49 comparted to NGC. I think NGC slabs are more air-tight (Mr White's book "Coin Chemistry" demonstrates this) so for red copper this is good. I have a nice RB IHC that is toning and I one point I was going to crack out and try for a full RD which would have been a very significant price difference. No chance now. NGC slabs do sell for less than PCGS equivalent coins. I think the PCGS slab is more esthetic. The old slabs of NGC have tilited coins and that is very annoying to me. They get lost in the thickness of the white slab and can't see the edge. At first, I didn't like the new edge holder of NGC and now it is growing on me. My Lincolns look Bigger and more prominent in them. PCGS circular slab is what sells me and the rims of the outside don't get scratched as much. NGC slabs scratch so easy to me. As far as grading I think, NGC will grade MS 70'd coins (the product not the grade) because NCS uses some derivative of this product as far as I am concerned and they want those coins to grade. PCGS will give genuine to a lot of toned coins if they even hint of AT. Maybe Lehigh could pitch in on that- he would know way more than I. Just my speculative opinion. I do agree that NGC is more consistent on grading. I still like the eye appeal of the PCGS slab and that is why I generally like them better. I also live in the West so my coins don't travel as far to get slabbed.
What is weird, is that when it comes to ASE's and AGE's, NGC sells more then PCGS... I've also noticed this trend with morgans and peace dollars
PCGS takes a late lead....I never put an end to this poll, so it'll keep going as long as people keep voting...
I voted PCGS. Pretty much all I buy. Also I think the new NGC slabs scratch horribly. I know that sounds weird but the more of them I photograph the less I like them. I think their latest slab was a downgrade in plastic.
I look at them both as pretty much equals. I honestly don't have a preference. I have send in 2 coins to be grade...both were sent to PCGS simply because the dealer I went through didn't submit much to NGC.
NGC is the worst out of all the grading companies in my opinion. PCGS is better, but still not very consistent. I think ANACS is the best.
I TRY to buy on the coin not the holder.... but NGC holders are just soo much more attractive and the edgeview ones pushed that to yet another level. so in the end I think ive got 1 PCGS and about 15 NGC lol NGC it is!
