After some practice I think I may have finally got good enough pics to post two of my morgans to see if some of the well trained eyes around here will give me an idea on the condition/grade. I have no intentions of getting them slabbed an I am not looking to "flip" these coins they are for my collection and am very happy to have them @ $25 each. I am looking forward to input on both the coins and my grades. Any reasons accompanying the critique of my grade would be helpful. Thanks

My novice eye is guessing MS-60 on this 1903

Your pics are too big, so CT shrunk them, the maximum limit is 250 kb per pic. If you want to post larger pics try uploading them on a image hosting site, like photobucket, and attaching them from there.

Btw, $25 for a 1903 is a good deal. Can't tell the exact grade from the pics, but it looks AU-MS, and $25 is the Numismedia value for a G4.

lemme try this, I had the big pictures that would open to full size by clicking on them when I post my notes in the paper sections.

The coin is quite clean, but it does look like it has been wiped on the obv and there is a scratch. It's kind of borderline as to whether or not a TPG would slab it. Could go either way basd on the pics. Kind of depends on bad the wipe is and the scratch.

But if it grades at all it would go 63 easy enough and probably 64. Me, I'd say no grade.

Nice pics, I think I see some rub on the hair above the ear, I would say a nice au-55 a great deal, me being a novice take my opinion with a grain of salt

thanks for the input, I was really expecting more responses but I think I posted in the wrong forum. I probably should have been in the us coin forum, just realized that now.

Not really, just as many people see it here as do there. Some threads generate responses and some do not. There's really no rhyme or reason to it.

    EF-40 Is my guess.

And sometimes you just have to wait for us to show up - plus once Doug posts you pretty much have a good opinion.

Me, I can't really tell from the pictures of the coin - but I would say MS from what I can see. No way is that coin less than AU - in my opinion. Look purty nice to me.

My initial thought was MS-60. I think I'll stick with it.

While grading is admitedly not a science, and difficult from images, there is simply no way that coin is only XF40, or for that matter only between XF45 and AU53. There is barely any, if any wear on it. My best guess is in the AU58 to MS61 range.

I also think it's worth between $20 and the $25 paid for it.

I agree with the first part. Imo there looks like there's some slight rub, so I say AU58.

But for a high AU, I think the price is around $40.

Oops, I agree - I was thinking in terms of common dates, not a 1903.

I would agree that there is a small amount of wear. I would give it AU-55 or 58.
