My understanding is it is only a crime to deface currency if it 1) makes it unusable, or 2) is an attempt to advertise for profit. I could be wrong though.
Nope. You can carve up all the coins and rip, tear, paint all the currency ya want and it's perfectly legal.
Wow! Little did I know that I have joined a website that *supposedly* talks about coins, but in reality is a haven for the liberal, politically correct elitists in our society. Jeez, I made a simple comment - my opinion - of the value of a particular coin, and someone there calls it "political comment"??? Wow....for the record, it was *not* a political comment; rather, it was a simple comparison between my perceived value of the coin based on my observed value of the individual on whom it is based. We're all educated people here, and furthermore, we're all Americans, with the right of free speech. Hopefully, I don't have to quote chapter and verse on THAT. Hey, how about the LN6 Lincoln Chronicles set? Awesome, isn't it?
This is a private forum and thus does not have to allow free speech. Plus, if you had read the rules that you agreed to when you joined it clearly said no politics.
Thanks...you just solidified the point I was making. Again, I thought this forum was about coins, but there's an underlying mentality here that is oh so wrong for our country. Hey, how about that 2009 Silver Proof Set!!
This is a forum about coins...politics tend to cause arguments and thus isn't allowed. You should have read the rules before you agreed to them.
It is about coins. And that is precisely why no one, absolutely no one, is permitted to make political comments about anyone in any political party. Or out of a political party. Political commentary is not permitted here regardless of who or what it is about - period. I don't even care if you want to discuss the politics of George Washington - you can't do that either.
Folks, I hear you....my only reason for posting in this area *WAS* collector-related. I was merely commenting on, and questioning, the value of such a coin. For me, it is of no value, and in fact, depreciates the value of the coin that is defaced...er, modified. I'll stop now, since so many of you clearly misunderstood the message. Still loving my new Lincoln Chronicles Set....
