Hi all. I just received my 1999-2008 silver proof sets today! I got them off of eBay from a nice elderly gentleman in New York and I just have to tell someone...if you know that feeling. LOL The sets are all spot/haze/toning free and I plan to make a wall display of the quarters and will post a pic when done. To my eyes, proofs are the prettiest coins. Now I'll continue on with my silver proof ASE collection. I also plan to make a wall display of the coins in the mint capsules. Have a great evening everyone! :smile

    Congrats!

If there's really no haze on any of them you got extremely lucky. I haven't seen a 99 set yet that didnt have the white haze. I'm actually thinking about just buying the 99's individually slabbed and be done with it.

Yep, that 1999 set is VERY difficult to find without haze. It helps to get them from a climate that is not too humid. I asked several very specific questions and asked for extra closeups of the 1999 set and he was very obliging. I ended up buying them outside of eBay. He was down to his last 2 sets and you know how folks always keep the best for last. lol

Oh yeah, be careful about buying even the slabbed proof '99s. I had a 1968 PCGS PR-68 DCAM Kennedy half dollar that was so disgustingly hazy that I sold it for melt!

Looks like I'm not the only one that has noticed this. Part of the problem must be that people just didn't store them properly. Thanks for the tip. I should probably get around to buying these because as many bad ones are out there, the decent ones' values could disconnect and start selling for huge premiums. My 2001 set isn't 'perfect' with a little haze, but I got it for $50. You'll have to post a pic once you complete your display.

Are you going to get the 2009's? I got the set as a gift. Comes with the Lincoln cents too. I don't anticipate getting into the parks program. It's just too much. If I miss out, I miss out. What about you?

I did get the 2009 proof set this year and it looks great. So now I have all the silver proof statehood and territorial quarters, all of the presidential proof dollars, the nickels from the last few years. I've got all of the most expensive proof silver eagles and I need about 10 more to complete the set, not counting the '95-W. I'm waiting for that to drop in price. Once I'm all caught up by the end of this year, then I'll just get the new stuff from the mint each year. I can get the proof ASEs all day long for $40 apiece on eBay. That's one large and beautiful coin for the money IMO. Have fun everyone!

For what the pres proof dollars cost, I think they are very attractive and will look good in a wall display when complete, all at a reasonable cost. Non-proofs just don't do much for me anymore. I don't see so well, but the cameos are pretty IMO.
