The Netherlands Antilles used to be comprised of two group of Islands situated in the West Indies which included Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao and their indepedencies (Saint Eustatius, Saba and the Southern part of Saint Maarten) up until 1954 when the Netherlands Antilles was given complete domestic autonomy and granted equality under the Dutch Kingdom along with Surinam. Two silver coins were struck in 1964. One is the First silver Crown ever struck for the Netherlands Antilles. One is a 1 Gulden measuring 28mm with a silver finess of 7200 (0.2315 oz. ASW). This silver coin was minted 1952 through part of 1970. Later in 1970 it was struck only in nickle and its reverse was changed from crowned arms to crowned shield above ribbon (minted 1970 - 1980).
