Great looking coin. You had me worried for a minute when you said you bought a 'double die', then I saw it was a 'doubled die'. No such a thing as 'double die'.

I purchased one of these raw in 1995 from a dealer for $35. He had an entire roll of them. I wonder how well it has done over the years. I would grade it as high-end 66 or 67 at best. Anyone know prices on raw examples?

at the time it was a fair price. I would hope that it has appreciated some over the intervening years. Do you know what the raw ones go for now, Frank?

    About a year ago the MS-68 were going for $135 (ANACS)-$150 (NGC)-$170(PCGS).
    and the MS-67 for $115 - $135- $150
    and the MS-66 for $95 - $110 - $125,

I kept track from 3/08 to 6/08 for myself.

There was then a large drop off to MS-65 and below as most from a roll would grade 64-65 on average. There have been several submissions of over 100BU coins at a time, so there are/have been hoards still of these. For a collection, they are very reasonable at the MS-63 to MS-65 range, slabbed or raw. If someone was looking at these for an investment ( it would be a while), only buy the PCGS/NGC MS-68. There are very very few MS-69 (1 PCGS).

There is more supply than demand now IMO.

    That's a good price for a MS67.
I would have held out for a MS68 PCGS that was stage a or b - they pop up for $135-150 on eBay sometimes...but alas I have no funds to buy one right now...

A couple of years ago I bought ten (10) of the PCGS MS67red coins from a dealer on eBay in a range between $105 and $115 each. I thought I got a good deal at the time. You can see which way prices have headed.

You probably got about as good a deal as one can get for a TPG graded example in that condition. The problem is...no one knows how many of them are out there. There could be dealers with bags of these things just waiting for the series to end.

At the time, I might have gotten a nice 1955 DDO for the money I spent on the 1995 DDOs. That would have been a much smarter move...in hindsight. That's what I call "writing a tuition check to the School of Hard Knocks".

Don't get me wrong, I like the coins and still have them...I'm just kicking myself for not doing my homework first.

nah, you only lose money if you sell.

The problem is that there are far more than anyone ever realized.

heck, anyone know what an NGC 68 is worth?
I just realized that I probably took a bath.

Also a 67 Red in PCGS?

also, you have to get those prices.

    well, I checked, the 67 RD is $120 with a +.

But, you have to belong to NGC to check their prices.

If PCGS it is $190. also a +.

Not bad on either, but the others?

I got the coin from Mintproducts.com today. I am very pleased with my purchase. I was a spur of the moment purchase and I am glad it is my first doubled die purchase.:)
