Here's the latest from the United States Mint :secret::

"Because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Gold and Silver Bullion Coins, the United States Mint suspended production of 2009 proof and uncirculated versions of these coins. All available 22-karat gold and silver bullion blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle Gold and American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin Programs, as mandated by Public Law 99-185 and Public Law 99-61, respectively. Both laws direct the agency to produce these coins in quantities sufficient to meet public demand. The proof and uncirculated versions of the American Eagle Gold and Silver Proof Coins are not mandated by law.

The United States Mint is working diligently with current and potential blank suppliers to increase the supply of bullion coin blanks, so it can offer to the public the proof and uncirculated versions of American Eagle silver, gold, and platinum coins in 2010."

I am still rather confused as to why silver is still relatively cheap, when the demand is through the roof!!!

Why can't mint do anything to satisfy our needs? LOL
I mean, these were highly anticipated, everyone had their subscriptions, and were all waiting until they got these 09 Proofs and 09 Uncirculated coins, and then Mint pulls this stunt.
    Whatever.
    Maybe next year...

The situation had less to do with the demand for silver, but rather the demand for the blanks to make the silver coins. The third party vendors who supply the mint with the silver blanks can not keep up with the demand.

very interesting. Are the 2009 Silver Bullion coins going to be worth more than previous years? Any one have production numbers?

    To quartertapper:

It seems "only in America." Have you priced silver coins from dealers in other countries? :crying:

Explained in the first paragraph of the announcement, because by law they HAVE to make the bullion coins to satify the demand and the demand is higher than their supply of blanks, so ALL of the blanks have to go toward meeting that demand.

Because there is really a whole lot more of it out there than people realize.

True because they are not only supplying the US Mint they are also supplying other government mints and probably several private mints as well. There is so much demand for silver blanks from so many sources that the suppliers are overwhelmed.

Not likely. The 2009 bullion silver eagle mintage is WAY more than any other year. Last I knew it was over 20 million pieces. No other year come close.

If they would melt the 5Million extra ASE left over each year! and make the 2009-W Proof this year we would be happy

Write & call your congressman & senators and we may have a ASE Proof this year?
