I'm seeing resales going at the $130. to $140. range, after the inital Presale mania has settled down. Feel sorry for anyone that bought over the $200. mark. Look for more settling out to come!

i agree, more settling wil occur in the price IMHO. those who bought the set for $200, i doubt care about the price fall. They are most likely just happy to have gotten there set after a mint sellout. the sellers are happy, the buyers (i bet) are happy. everyone wins.

Yeah, there will always be buyers that want what they can't have and then they overpay. But yeah, I still think these are great sets to own from a dealer & collector point of view.

That's a bit of a burn to me. I thought this was gonna be something big. Well, the sets being sold right now are extras or ppl who don't want their sets anyways. Time will tell what happens to the price, there's no way in tim buck too that I'm selling my set for less than $350 so until it gets above that price I will ignore the sales. :D

I believe he is referring to how how you cannot even sell the Franklin Chronicle set, at what it sold for a few years ago at mint. They go for way less, I don't know what the issue price of the set was, but I've seen some of them going rather cheap lately, just not that desirable I guess.

There was a sealed box in hand that went for $168 today...:thumb:

The search for 70s will keep the sealed boxes at a decent price. JMO

I don't agree. Wouldn't an opened set that was verified to not have any spots be more valuable than taking a gamble on an unopened box? The bad ones are gonna be really obvious. There's also 450,000 other Lincoln dollars out there for people to buy, (still in the mint packaging) to try to get the 70.

I bought a set myself that I will keep but I didn't need it. The packaging is all this set is about. It will simply prove that this was the end of the run and it looks nice. That's about it. The wild card is the special copper cents (that also happen to be available in just about every set or individually). There hasn't been excitement over cents like this in 100 years so we'll see. They will still be very common so I'm not getting my hopes up long term. We have to be realistic.

I got my 2006-S San Francisco $5 gold commemorative in a NGC MS70 for $290. Which was about $40 over spot at the time. Occasionally they go for less than that on Ebay. The mint only produced 17,500 of these things!!

This $5 commemorative is one of the more attractive and should have more general interest throughout the hobby than most. But it seems to have faded into history. Although it is not commonly seen at coin shows, the demand must not be there to drive the prices anymore than that. Maybe it needs more time. Some of the older ones have become more pricey.

Point being, there's almost 3x that amount in Lincoln sets to go around plus the other 450,000 that were already released. Unless I'm really underestimating, that simply is not a small number.

I bought ten (10) of the Franklin Chronicle sets on eBay for $267. I couldn't believe my luck! I don't recall the issue price, but I think it was somewhere around $45-$50.

I don't know why no one wants them...the Franklin Scientist coin is one of my favorites! I'll buy them < $30 all day long!

Glad you've had luck buyin' them.
It just appeals to some people I guess. IMO, this Lincoln Dollar is a piece of junk! I hate the design and everything about it, I also don't care for these 4 pennies either, but that is JMO.

yak, I got the Founding Father one in a PCGS PF-69 from a shop for $45. He had a stack of 5 of them.

I like them. I thought that one was a really cool design. Those silver dollars only had a mintage of 200,000 each. Yet still a lack of demand. Kind of surprising to me. I guess there's just getting to be too many commemoratives now and popularity plays a huge roll in demand.

I gotta admit...Lincoln looks a bit scary on the dollar.

LOL...I just got the image of a kid coming to the door this Halloween dressed as the Lincoln Commemorative.

Good price! PCGS lists it at almost $70. The 2010 Red Book lists the mintages of both coins at 142,000 Proof, 58,000 Unc.

Red Book mintages have been known to be a bit questionable at times. I wish the U.S. Mint kept a running total (on their web site) of all coin mintages/melts back to 1792...shouldn't be difficult to do.
