I agree. They also are VERY expensive.. I don't think the beauty pays off. Unless you get one of Illini420's most talked about potty dollars for laugh value :)

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I like the symbolism of the seated designs, even if the trade dollar is a bit stiff. I wish they had used the eagle of the Gobrecht dollars, but I don't find the eagle of the TD or the SLD as unattractive as that of the Morgan dollar. Decent looking earlier issue SLD's can be very hard to find, and I have my share of imperfect examples. They were used heavily in commerce, wear their scars with pride, and can lead one down interesting avenues of history.

But really? The design you like?
I find it hard to appreciate. I don't know. Just my opinion.

Kaz , love the color on the '76-CC . Just a quick question on my '75 small S , Trade dollar , I just noticed the eagles nostril is one perfect incuse dot . Have you ever seen that before everything else looks fine as you noticed .
Pual and BNB must really hate the twenty cent piece , obverse Liberty seated design and reverse almost the same Eagle as the Trade dollar .

Hi Rusty, I haven't studied the eagle's nostrils too closely before. I find that the shape of the beak and the eye are good indicators of authenticity. There are many minor die variations in these coins, as well as strike differences. I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Where's all the hype that you referenced? I don't see it in my dealings.

BNB , Maybe all the "Hype" you are seeing is just a lot of posts dealing with counterfeit Trade dollars and Seated Dollars . so it's not hype per say of the coins but people wanting to know wether their coins are real or not .
