ok, someone let me in on the big secret. I have been working on a 63-65 mint state long short set for some time. What I find peculiar, or a bit odd, is that from 37 toward 34, certain mint marks (s,d) are not in a lot of dealers inventories. If they are, there are not a lot to choose from. Is there that many collectors out there that have a death grip on these or what? I have even checked out collectors corner and they are weak. If anyone knows of a dealer who specializes, plmk.
Hmmmmm - in less than 10 minutes of searching I wa sable to find over 50 examples of the dates and mints you want, in the grades you want, that have been sold on Heritage in the past 6 months alone. How many do you want ?
And www.davidlawrence.com has 34-D, 35-D, 36-D&S, and 37-D&S all for sale right now. Plus they have sold 2 34-S's and a 35-S so far this year.
Thx GDJMSP, but I do prefer dealers to auction houses for various reasons. Yes, rim's cents, david lawrence does have some examples, as a few other dealers do. What is lacking is the spread. I would like to find dealers that have more than one (if they have one) 63, 64 and 65 for each mint mark, and preferably multiples in the grade. All Im saying is there should be more on the market, but maybe they just don't move enough for dealers to keep them on their inventory. Anybody else know of dealers who stock these??
I collect Lincolns. I spent nearly a year looking for a single uncirculated 1920-S that I could afford before I finally found one. The same goes for a 1924-S. They are far from the rarest Lincolns, but try to find them in uncirculated. Maybe those walkers are in the same category.
OK, suit yourself. Hopefully you do realize that you can almost always get them for less money via Heritage than you can from a dealer. Also, Heritage does have a direct buy service ya know. There is no auction, you just buy the coin from them just like you would any other dealer. Or if you want, I'll be happy to put in direct contact with one of their salesmen and you can get the coins thru him.
