What do you guys think of the possibility. I, for one, would welcome it if only they would just make the 'half' silver instead o' clad.... http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis/Article.jsp?ad=article&ArticleId=8025
Sounds good to me. I'll take a set. I got to visit Gettysburg in 2007. Really neat place. The silver half isn't a big issue to me. Would be nice though. I'm betting this will pass. Can't wait to see the designs.
very interesting. I might pick up a set of $1 and $1/2. But wasnt there already a set like this issued in the 90's? I vaguely remember a YN set issued .. not sure if it was for this or not....
There was not a Gettysburg coin issued in the 90's but there was one issued in 1936. I don't like the idea of commemorating the same event twice. Besides, there is no way to improve upon the original design. It has nowhere to go but down. PS: I don't own this coin.
I had my chance and lost with a $1,200 bid. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1110&Lot_No=7343#photo
Personally, I have always felt that the mint should issue all commemorative coinage in silver or gold. None of this clad crap. Lets get back to the silver half dollar. Either way, I will buy one whether it is clad or silver.
I have the 1936 Gettysburg Commem. It's my favorite coin. I think they will be hard pressed to match it. However, since I live within 35 miles of Gettysburg and taught history for 33 years I'll probably get the set, including the gold piece and I buy very few gold pieces, it better catch my eye.
I'll buy a set, unless the design is utterly atrocious. I agree that the 75th anniversary design is hard to beat, toned or not.
I don't think we need another Civil War coin, but since this topic is very popular, it will certainly be issued for the money making venture alone. It's interesting what topics are continually brought up and which are not.... what happened to the 40th anniversary of the moon landing?
I don't mind the clad commemorative halves as long as they are part of a set. I think the clad half, silver dollar, gold $5 sets are kind of cool. It would be neat if it was all silver and gold...but having 3 coins in 3 different metals is kind of neat I think.
It's still hanging around waiting for the 50th anniversary of NASA (2008) Program to pass. It might have a shot around 2015. Or maybe 2019 and they can use the proceeds to try and jumpstart the "return to the moon" idea again because I doubt if we will have gotten back there by then.
