    Hello all ~

I am new to your site. I am the ggg-granddaughter of the founder of Palmer National Bank (#4731) of Danville, Illinois. I always keep my eye open for those notes. The bank once had the name of Palmer-American National Bank. I am always interested in finding those national notes. If anyone knows of any of those notes for sale, please contact me. I would like to pass them down to my grandchildren.

    Sincerely,
    mrs. peapod

    Mrs. Peapod...

For your first post all I can say is what a request...seems that this is a pretty rare bank with "2nd Titile" ( Palmer-American NB) issued 11/28/31

First Title notes that are outstanding is ~ 21 Large Size and 39 Small size.
If you were to find any of these my guess is that they would not be cheap...
So if you do not mind me asking, if you are the ggg-grandaughter, what got you interested and how do you recall the Charter # of this Bank, let alone the recall of the 2nd Title of the charter...sounds like you know more than what you are letting on.....

Check Teletrade.com, it's a coin auction site. They sometimes have currency, like today's auction. Look for Currency: National Banknotes and with luck your bank will be up for bid. And there is always Ebay.

hi there ricky b ~ about three years ago, when i was searching danville, illinois on ebay, the town my ggg-grandfather helped found, i saw a palmer note for sale. until then, i didn't know the bank issued notes or that they existed though of course i knew about my grampa's bank as my whole family has handed down genealogical information. so, since then, when i'm able, i purchase notes though they are pricey. i started asking questions of dealers, etc. they are the only notes i'm interested in. i have no other notes or coins that i collect, just my ggg-grandfather's! i hope that helps! sincerely,
    mrs. peapod

hi there :) all i know about banknotes, now, is that they *do* exist, something of the history of them, that my ggg-grandfather's bank issued them, and that i want to hand them down to my grandchildren. i'm no numismatist in any real sense. i went to one show and was *amazed* by everything but i'm a retired school teacher. even if i *were* interested in something more exotic, i could never afford it. so, i've just stuck to looking for my grandfather's bank - and that's it. please do keep me in mind if you ever find one. sincerely, mrs.peapod

My recommendations on finding a specific note from a specific city:

    Lowell Horwedel - horwedelscurrency.com

    Lyn Knight Auctions - lynknight.com

    Heritage Auctions - ha.com

I have bought USA and foreign notes from all of them, you can do want lists also so that they contact you if something comes in. In particular the first one listed, Lowell Horwedel found a National Bank note for me from a small town in Missouri. Since then I got a small sized national from there.

PS - I checked the archives on Heritage and they have had sixteen sales of National notes from Palmer-American National Bank, 4731 since 2001, with prices ranging from $138 on up to over $2K and have even large denomination large sized nationals which are impossible to find usually.

    Palmer bank

    Dear Scott ~

What a wonderful thing to hear that your dad worked at my ggg-grandfather's bank! I am so astonished to hear this news! No one has ever contacted me with such information. I am sorry to hear your dad passed away last year. I'm sure your father was a great dad - otherwise, you wouldn't have written, I'm sure. If you're ever interested in parting with that note, do please let me know. I went to Palmer Bank's 100th anniversary in 1992. Not long thereafter, it changed hands. Sad for me that it now has another name. Drop me a line anytime! (are you still in danville? - i'm in so. cal) Sincerely, Linda

I don't have a clue what those notes may be worth and at this time wouldn't want to part with it.I do have some matchbooks, from the Palmer bank that I'd be happy to give you.I may have some photo's of the bank but I'll have to check again.
My Father did love working at the Palmer Bank, starting as a teller/bookeeper to eventually become a member of the board of directors. When he started I believe "Red" Crays was the president. The original bank with all the old marble and granite was such a lovely building. My Father actually took some of the marble floor tiles and installed them in the house he used to own in Georgetown,Il.
I moved down to Florida a year ago. Here is my e-mail address--thor611@msn.com.You can write me there and I'll share my name address ect.

    Dear Mrs. Peapod,
My name is Mr. Kirby and I worked in Danville for about 8 years while I was there I acquired a $50 bill that has the numbers 4731 stamped on the left and right side of the bill, it is a 1929 bill that also says "THE PALMER NATIONAL BANK OF DANVILLE ILLINOIS." The note looks to be in really good condition, who ever had it had folded it a few times so it has about five creases but to me looks better than many bills that I have seen in the past five years. I seen that you were intrested in locating these for your Grandchildren. If you have any questions please feel free to contact.
    Thanks, Mr. Kirby.

Dear Mr. Kirby ~ It's quite kind of you to contact me regarding my grandfather's bank. If you are willing to sell this note, please let me know. I am certainly willing to purchase it from you. My grandchildren are now 21 (in Afghanistan, 173rd Airborne), 17, in museum studies at her college, and 11 - with pink stripes in her golden hair! They are quite a bunch, I'll tell you! Thank you so much for this email...

    Sincerely,
    mrs.peapod
