Updated: 2:13 PM ET Fri Lowest 33159xxx Highest 33224xxx (Increased by 9,000 since last update) Now lets assume 80% of the sales involved Chronicle Sets. (Changed to 80% because it's more reasonable than the previous assumption) 33224000-33159000 = 65,000 * 0.80 = 52,000 Sets (sold out at 50,000) Some other trials 33224000-33159000 = 65,000 * 0.75 = 48,750 Sets 33224000-33159000 = 65,000 * 0.70 = 45,500 Sets We have to be coming close by now. Of course there's other factors, such as direct sales from the mint stores perhaps, and duplicate orders/cancellations.
Thanks for running down the numbers. Very impressive how quickly they've likely been snapped up. The Mint is making a mint!
You were correct. I got an email saying my order is backordered. I never noticed before that my order would go into suspended status. Anyway I got it.
I don't think I will get one!! Because I'm sending my cheque tommorow and by the time it gets to the USA Mint from Canada they are ganna be sold out I just know it!! I really wish my dad was home and then I could use his credit card!! I guess I'll just cross my fingers and hope my best that I will reciseve one! Wish me luck!
As Danr mentioned, for those of us who lived through the early First Spouse coins....this was a walk in the park. Here are some things that I have learned from having to do this many times in the past few years..... 1. Make sure you have an account with the US Mint. Although this is not necessary, it allows you to set up the "Quick Check Out" feature which makes the purchase so simple and much quicker. 2. Log on up to 30 minutes prior to sale. If you log on before, you run the risk of being kicked off the site due to the Mint web sites's 30 minute timeout period due to inactivity. 3. Once you get onto the site and begin the order process, do not hit the "refresh" button. Since I am no computer guru, I can't fully explain this, but I have been told by many people who are much smarter than me that hitting the refresh button just resets your spot in line. Maybe someone else can comment on this, but I always let it ride. Every now and then, it will freeze up and refreshing it doesn't help. This is when I just need to exit and start all over again. 4. Lastly..... RELAX! I have been ordering from the mint using the website since its inception and I have always gotten my coins. It appears that as long as you get your order in within the first few hours, you are golden. Even with the lowest mintage coins that the mint has sold in recent years (2006 AGE Rev Proof and the 2007 FS coins) with mintages of 20K, people who placed their orders within the first few hours were always lucky enough to get their coins. Anyone who has additional advice or comments, please share.
I'll add one thing Joe. If you guys want to maximize your purchase to take advantage of the $4.95 shipping, log on to the site early and fill your shopping cart with whatever it is that you'd like to purchase on top of the item that's going on sale at 12 noon. You can log out and those items will remain in your cart till the next time you log in. I was able to score two mint sets along with the coin and chronicles set by doing this.
Great point Ken! That is exactly what I did today....sort of. But I did place an order for 8 other items so I did save some money on shipping costs.
for your consideration Anyone who does not manage to et the Lincoln Coin & Chronicle set (LN6) will have the chance on the secondary market in buying empty cases when others start to sell them after having coins sent in for grading/slabbing. An LN6 set will be possible to assemble from the Proof Lincoln Coin and 4 pc. Lincoln Proof set (currently still $7.95 from the Mint) The cases may show up for $10, $20 - $50 on eBay later on... if the LN6 sets remain hot, this may not be much to pay if you can assemble such a set yourself from the parts. An important consideration: If you get any LN6 sets that contain cents with spots, I suggest you do not complain to the Mint and DO NOT send the set back to the Mint. Instead buy the 4 piece Lincoln Proof set with clean coins to replace those in your LN6 set. If you return your LN6 set to the Mint due to spots or other minor problems this would mean you loose the silver proof coin and the case itself, plus shipping costs.
The Mint's web server processes requests serially, one after the other. When you refresh, your initial request (the one closer to being served) is *dropped and a new request is initiated, effectively putting you at the back of the line. Refreshes with sites like the Mint's are bad news. Sometimes its necessary (say if 30 minutes has gone by with no response) but generally, you should get a response even if it takes 10-15 mintues. *Technically, the Mint's website doesn't drop the request, it processes it as it was supposed to do. It's your browser that drops the Mint's response because you told it that it should be looking for a response from the new refresh request and not the initial request. It's entirely feasible that if you are mashing refresh, your browser is dropping every chance you've gotten to get an order in early.
Danr: This post by Argento (above) speaks to what I was getting at with using multiple windows and refreshing pages as working against you trying to complete your order on the Mint's web site on particularly traffic prone days like today.
Hey all, this is just stupifying! I'm very new to coin collecting...started roll searching about a month ago. Tonight I decided to place my first order with the mint for a 2009 proof, 2009 uncirculated, and the chronicles set this thread is about. It took me all of 5 minutes to do, and that included setting up my account for my first ever order. I get an email from the mint saying: 1. 2009 LINCOLN COIN & CHRONICLES SET (LN6) Qty 1 @ $55.95 - Backordered 10/30/09. 2. 2009 CLAD PROOF SET (18-COIN) (P09) Qty 1 @ $29.95 - In stock. 3. 2009 UNCIRCULATED SET (U09) Qty 1 @ $27.95 - Backordered 10/12/09. I was at first confused about how something can be backordered 4 days ago regarding the U09 set, but now after reading all these posts (and not realizing the time sensitivity involved in this ordering process beforehand!) I'm scared that I'm hearing that I'm likely not even going to get my coins?! If something is backorderd, is that code for "out of luck"? Cheers guys, Christian
No, not typically bad news. Most orders get that message when shipping / delivery is at a future date. Check your account page > track orders now and then to see the status of your order change. Most important is you have a order confirmation email from the Mint at first, the watch the status of your order, if the Mint hasn't taken orders beyond what they can fill, your status will changed from 'Back ordered' to 'processing' to 'In Stock & Reserved' to 'Shipped'. Also watch your credit card statement online for charges from the Mint near the ship date. If your items require signature upon delivery, UPS tends to call ahead with an automated call to notify you a parcel is on the way and provide a tracking number which you can follow on the UPS website.
I don't believe this set will sell out quickly, because Mint limit one per household and number of collectors are less than 50,000. Most people buy more than 2 or 3 sets for flipping. If they change to no limit, sure it will be gone within 1/2 hour. You can see the Presidential Dollar such as Harrison and tyler, both of them are same quantity in the Mint set, but the Harrison is way more expensive than Tyler.
The limit is one per household, many people are enlisting friends and family to get multiple sets and based on the order numbers people have posting here on CT earlier yesterday and today as well as on other blogs and forums, sales should be quite close to sell out.
mint pushed back the product available for shipment to 10/30/09 from 11/13/09. that's mean still have plenty. maybe this product is popular among collectors but not outsiders,
