Following as closely as possible from those CT members who posted to this thread, the count looks to be about 108 sets reported in the first 12 hours!
that's why it did not sell out. because we CT just bought 108 set. that is 0.0022% of the total 50,000 set.
Maybe not all CTers have reported yet since they may not have been successfully confirmed by the Mint or they are private in their purchases. It has only been 12 hours and the coins will keep selling with all this excitement.
Yeah not much overall, but just having some fun to see what sort of numbers we could turn up around here... obviously 50K isn't rare coinage, low mintage by any stretch.
especially when NONE of the coins included in the set are limited to 50,000 mintage. The only thing limited to 50,000 is the packaging.
for your consideration Anyone who does not manage to get the Lincoln Coin & Chronicle set (LN6) will have the chance on the secondary market in buying empty cases when others start to sell them after having coins sent in for grading/slabbing. An LN6 set will be possible to assemble from the Silver Proof Lincoln Coin and 4 pc. Lincoln Proof set (currently still $7.95 from the Mint) The cases may show up for $10, $20 - $50 on eBay later on... if the LN6 sets remain hot, this may not be much to pay if you can assemble such a set yourself from the parts. An important consideration: If you get any LN6 sets that contain cents with spots, I suggest you do not complain to the Mint and DO NOT send the set back to the Mint. Instead buy the 4 piece Lincoln Proof set with clean coins to replace those in your LN6 set. If you return your LN6 set to the Mint due to spots or other minor problems this would mean you loose the silver proof coin and the case itself, plus shipping costs.
Well, I think this thread is kind of cool and interesting anyway. I suspect many have not posted theirs here yet either because everybody thinks they need to start their own thread on it. So as usual, we ended up with about 5 different threads going today on the same thing. You know dealers are taking advantage of this and ordering as many as they want in various ways. Plus, I'm sure there are Lincoln enthusiasts here and there worldwide who picked them up today. Cointalk is a small fraction of a percentage of the global collecting community. Despite the 500k overall mintage, these will remain a popular issue as time goes on with a much greater following. There's no doubt. I don't care what they're selling for on ebay now or 10 years from now. I'm not selling.
Krispy, just a guess but most of the time aren't the capsules they use to fit in sets like this a special size? I highly doubt you'll be able to buy regular air-tites that will fit in this set. I could be wrong though.
Yes that is correct, you cannot use a different capsule such as AirTites. One would need to buy a coin-less LN6 case on the secondary market with the capsules (also empty) or find the correct capsules elsewhere, then crack a 4 pc. Lincoln Proof set and place those coins into the LN6 coin capsules along with the Proof Silver Lincoln coin in order to recreate an LN6 set.
FYI, I've forward this thread to the U.S. Mint and Mint Director Moy. All of you who admitted to ordering multiple sets have violated Mint policy and should expect to have ALL OF your orders cancelled.
