'back ordered' status is normal, next should be 'order processing', 'in stock & reserved' and 'order shipped' ...something like that.
That was the same here. I first began to log on at 12:30 and finally got my order placed around 1:30. In addition to the LCC set, I also ordered my unc sets and some additional items. Computer was really, really slow, but I have learned not to rush it. Also helps when a friend pays for lunch while you are waiting at Panera Bread!
I just went on and orderd a set. On/off in less than five minutes. I would have thought that these sets would have been sold out by 7:30pm, but maybe with the economy its just to pricey for some? Jim
The mint has been known to continue to take orders well after the item has sold out. They do this because they know that people will call and cancel or return the product, so instead of saying that it was sold out, they keep you waiting for several months. This is what happened to me when I went to order the 3 coin AGE set in 2006. I waited over two months for my order to be processed only to be told that the coin set was indeed sold out.
Yeah I placed an order for a set, but I have a feeling that it likely has already sold out. Oh well, no big whoop if it did. I still got the Unc. and proof Lincoln silver dollars earlier this year, and I have got the proof lincoln cents in the silver proof set from July. It is kind of sad that the Mint's website cannot run more efficiently when they are having big items like this going on sale. I have had a lot of trouble in the past when ordering some things on release days. Generally have always had my orders taken and filled but still. I'd say anyone who placed an order after 4pm EDT is probably out of luck but we'll see.
I ordered mine at 19:30 EDT and backorder was 10/30/09. US MINT shows available 11/13/09 now. Think u still might be able to get one, but not for long.
I here you on being patient when your computer is slow it is a good idea to not rush it  I got my unc sets a few days ago & they are really cool , with the special Lincoln sets this year I wanted the proof set, silver proof set, unc sets & the Lincoln Chronicle to round out the collection , once I get the Chronicle set I'll have a complete 2009 Lincoln sets
I think you are right , I kinda like the way the Mint handled this by limiting the ordering to phone orders, it gives everyone a chance to receive the Chronicle Set
Take a look at what some folks are payin' in the aftermarket. Oh the humanity.... http://cgi.ebay.com/PRESALE-2009-US...mQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item2303653c6a http://cgi.ebay.com/2009-Lincoln-Co...mQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item1e58baadac http://cgi.ebay.com/2009-LINCOLN-CO...mQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item4a9b7f3144 Very tempting to "flip" what I've purchased today. It's almost too easy. Like taking candy from a baby. What is the word I'm searching for? Oh, that's right, business. Gotta make a buck. Shameless. I just can't do it and yet......yes, that is how the world goes 'round. I'll not compromise my convictions. I'm a collector. I collect.......
What if they don't sell out then there will be no one really willing to buy for these prices and if the household limit is raised or lifted to get rid of stock, you could still hope to scoop some up and relist a few later on near the holiday season for a bit of profit.
My thoughts exactly , I think these are a real treasure & the icing on the cake for the 2009 Lincoln tribute
I can't believe there are any left & if there are any left tomorrow my next door neighbor will be buying one :thumb:
The case is "leather-like", which is a far cry from leather. It's probably high quality cardboard or a grainy "embossed" hard plastic. In any event I got my 2 sets ordered and will be keeping them!
