On Thursday the United States Mint Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set (LN6) will go on sale at the mint http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...10001&storeId=10001&productId=15955&langId=-1 I expect prices of this set to go up because it is like the silver eagle anniversary sets in a way. There are way more than 50,000 Lincoln cent collectors so more demand than this supply should drive prices higher. With a limit of one per household it will be well distributed so no large inventories, dealers will have to buy in the aftermarket to get any supply of this. At $56 it is cheap compared to other important sets so i expect it to go up in price. Let's see what happens anyways. I am buying.
Yes, I'm waiting to jump on that steal of a deal as well. What kinda has me worried is if the mint is going to be able to do what they are saying. With all the dealers who have inside connections it will be interesting to see. Just the Lincoln dollar by itself flew off the shelves so fast last time it had me madder than a gang member in jail. No maybe not that stupid mad but maybe madder than a hornet in a bee hive.
I have no idea how anyone could order these. I called a few minutes before 12:00, spoke with a rep who told me I was too early. I called back repeatedly on redial and could never get through. Furthermore, they took down the website. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who was able to place an order, just to know how they did it!
I doubt if they took it down, probably all the requests for service coming in at the same time took it down. In fact the website IS there, I just accessed it, but it is running VERY slowly under the load. Typical every time a hot item goes on sale. Just closed the window to reduce their load and let someone else who actually wants to try and order one get through.
Very frustrated....I tried ordering on-line and started at 11.55 to log on. All of a sudden at step 4 (Payment Page) I got a white screen. I decided to open up another page and start over. Big mistake, all of a sudden I had 2 Chronicle sets in my shopping cart, and then it took for ever to correct it back to 1. Still waiting!
I had a devil of a time logging in but in the end I did prevail. Order placed and accepted at 12:30. Now lets see if these puppies sell out on the first day....
Sorry to hear that... you have to be really patient with those checkout pages, even when they look dead/blank. Just refresh the page and do nothing else but wait in the event of that happening. Keep an eye on the pages download progress in your browser, even if it says 'Done', it may still be loading the page contents. I think that even if you are 'timed out' and need to re login that the US Mint's website 'session cookies' and/or 'transaction cookies' still reflect the items in your cart, so you don't have to re-add items to your cart for checkout, you just log in again and proceed through the checkout steps... just so long as you didn't restart the browser app or shut down your connection. Good luck...
Yahoo!! I am done. Check this out on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Presale-2009-5-Coin-Lincoln-Chronicles-Set_W0QQitemZ260491740401QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item3ca68484f1 You got to be kidding trying to ask $ 704 for the chronicle set!
Congrats leoq!!! We know for sure a bunch of those 50,000 minted are heading to scores of CT members, of which there are more than 20,000 of us, although not all will order an LN6 set... :smile
Took me 45 minutes (my network went down at one point!) - but I got it at 12:50...I don't know how anyone got it at 12:30, that's when my shopping cart mysteriously went from full to empty and I thought all was lost...anyway I got it. I noticed that the main US Mint page was down (as were the phone lines) - one has to access through a catalog or account page (those pages were up - albeit very slow). (If I get spotty Lincolns after this much trouble I am going to have a fit.)
Congrats jcuve! Fit or not, there are likely to be some of us who get the spots and get to really dislike that little insert about 'tarnish' that will likely be tucked into the sets when they go out. (Someone scanned and posted in another 2009 Lincoln cents thread if you missed seeing that.)
Wow, $704 for the Chronicles, it says 6 available. And it says the price will double on the next listing if any remain. That's what I call confidence.
