Shoot, I bid on coins all the time at the coin club meeting without even looking or knowing what I am bidding on. Simply because it was put in by a kid and I know that they are counting on their SALE to buy something they want in the auction. I end up with alot of junk stuff, but watching a kid is well worth the price of a few bucks here and there on a lot they enter. I wish you the best of luck with your win and like you said, 26 bucks, Who cares.
Good job jim. And I agree with you - have fun with the coins. You never really know. You can post a better picture when you get them - hopefully soon, even I want to know more now.
Bill, I really hope you make the naysayers eat crow!! For anyone to say there will never be anything of value in the auction is complete crap. I bet for every single lottery winner somebody told them they would never win. I think you have an interesting little thread going on here and then a few started pi$$ing on it.
I need to say, how many people out there bought lottery tickets hoping to win and then lost and ripped up the ticket that they just payed for, only to throw it in the trash!! At least I will have something to show for it. If I can fill a whole with a few of these coins would be great. If I dont need them at least I can give them to my foster kids to help them with there collection. Either way I win. thanks for all the possitive feedback I am getting--BILL
Well, unfortunately they have a good point. Because I've seen the "I don't know anything about coins" excuse given in just about every non-dealer auction. Why is that disclaimer needed by every random person selling an 'unsearched' roll or grab bag? Why? Because they don't want to be held accountable for what they send AND they want to give potential buyers a hyped up sense of adventure so they will over bid. Those are negatives I'd prefer to stay away from. First, I'll be surprised if the guy sends everything that's in the picture. Whether on accident or on purpose. Half of people wouldn't bother checking. Second, he probably didn't pay $26 at the estate sale, if he even went to one. If he did pay more, than he's already kept the keepers out of it and is sweetening the deal by selling off the rest he didn't want for cash back. I've done it myself. If they're worth $1 a piece, why didn't the guy list them all individually and get more money? Next question, are you willing to create 33 separate auctions yourself to make the profit he missed out on if you don't want them? Creating one ebay auction and shipping out one item is a hassle. That said, I wish you luck. But I'd never trust people on ebay with these grab bags. Luckily, this was a low enough price where you could possibly get your money's worth of coins out of it, if that's all you were looking for. I'll be the happiest one for you if you get a key date out of the deal. At least you realize you have lottery odds.
cant wait till these things get here. they were mailed out on the 14th. I will be sure to post the pictures of the 3 legged buffulo nickel and the 1909-s-vdb. then I expect all the high fives I can get!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me be the first to give you a high five ---- for just having fun. I was hoping you already had them when you posted.
good or bad, i will let everyone know what I get from this auction. To tell you the truth I have a very good feeling that I will make out ok. maybe I wont get rich off it , but the fun I am having so far on this thread makes it all worth while. I am already ahead because just last week I bought my first buffulo nickels, He said in the auction that there are some in the bunch. lets see what dates I get--BILL
Your exuberant naivete is certainly refreshing. I doubt there will be any dates on these buffs. This anticipation is to the point of unbearable....where is that mailman? I want to see pics of the booty!!!!!
I hope that mailman doesn't come right at 12 noon when Bill is trying to order his Lincoln Coin & Chronicles set today! ...assuming Bill is even sitting online or on the phone to order one of these sets of course.)
you know whats funny? everyone is waiting now to see what I get in the mail!!!! thats great. I have everyone involved now!!! lol. I have the people that want me to make out like a bandit, and others that dont think I will make a dime!!! I can picture it now. some one will reply asking if the mail came yet!!!!! lol. just to keep you up to date. the coins are comming from Washington state, and I live in Pennsylvania. a long way to travel. Also he used snail mail . United states post office!!! could take 2 weeks!!! who knows. Ill keep ya up to date-- Is everyone on the edge of there seats?? this is turning out to be one of the best threads on coin talk!!! thanks--BILL
seller's photograph I sometimes wonder why the seller(s) don't place the coins real close together & in an orderly fashion in the photo so the buyers can review the material. I look forward to hearing about what you receive.
Have fun, that's a big part of the hobby. I must admit though, I bought a similar "lot" for about $11 on the spur of the moment just as the auction was ending. When the coins arrived I tore the package open to find a bunch of worthless coins, basically change in plastic flips that had a description like: "2003 Space Shuttle Columbia Disintergrates Upon Re-entry". And with it a 2003 Lincoln cent. Or "1947 Billionaire Howard Hughes Flies The Spruce Goose" with a 1947 penny. These coins would be barely OK for a child's first coin collection. So, don't get your hopes up too much as almost everyone who commented that these "Estate Type" auctions usually don't amount to much more than pocket change. The lesson I learned from my experience is don't look at the coin auctions that are just about to end unless you've done some research beforehand. My friend, I hope you have better luck than I. Bruce Why do you dress your dog like that?
Just a little update, I went on this persons store on e-bay to double check when he sent them. In the ad for these coins , this is what it says--- (You will receive everything shown in the picture, be sure to look over the picture well since I dont know anything about them-- this should be about everything , though you can look at the pic to know how much you will receive). In this persons store all he has for sale are (yugioh) playing cards. I did not see anything about other coins. Maybe, just maybe he really dosnt know what he has here?? I sure hope not.. I should get the coins either monday or tuesday. Be sure I will let you know as soon as I get them. wish me luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BILL (PS) I dont dress my dog like that, my wife does just to get a good laugh!! makes me laugh too. She is the best dog in the world.. She is my favorite girl in the world next to my wife--You have to admit , it sure does look funny!!--BILL
ebay Bill, back about a year ago I did one of these bids on ebay for around $22.00. Had no clue what was coming. I ended up with some silver, a trade dollar in pretty good shape. and other us coins that I have seen on ebay for a dollar or more. Plus coins from other countries. I was well pleased , have not bid on anymore like that. But I do look at them. Have fun, the ones that down you are the ones that wish they had what you have. Or should I say, have the balls to bid.
