No Bill, the real problem is that you are arguing about whether

• there was a gunman on the grassy knoll
• UFOs/ETs are being concealed in Area 51
• the moon landing photos were faked in the California desert
• etc.

Unfortunately, the conspiracy theorist mindset - I know what's true so quit trying to confuse me with factual evidence - is shared by some coin collectors.

The coins mentioned have been nicknamed as Phantom D and Phantom S mint marked coins.

Indeed there were some dies that had the mint marks abraded off. They are barely discernible from the normal dies with no mint marks. They are extremely difficult to photograph sinxce the mint marks are essentially gone.

What appears is a slight depression where a mint mark would be. There are several types where on some, the depression resembles a D or an S slightly more than a simple depression under the date. 1997 and some from 1998 are the ones most often encountered. The coins need to be close to or uncirculated to pick up on this.

I have a bunch of them here and I'll do my best to get a few shots where you can actually see something. They are not called "Phantom mint marks" for nothing

I was looking at this again..and as I zoomed in...and it looks like the number five is on top of the four in 1994...Ufo's , jesus in the grilled cheese, ....the grassy knoll...the five is a lot smaller than the five on a 1995...does anyone see this too?:rolling:

Jcuve, I sent it to Ken Potter at Coneca the first of September. I heard he was really busy. No e-mail or letter yet. Still anticipating...if anything...I have had fun dreaming about it, even if it comes back at zinc rot as others have suggested.

 

I see, you sent it to Ken instead of Mike. Ken has been busy along with some personal matters. You might try emailing him and see where he is at. Good luck!
