Where can I get uncirculated presidential dollars without paying a crazy premium over their face value? I don't want rolls. Just like 4 of each for some family members who want to collect them. I see coin dealers selling them for 3 or 4 dollars each. But I'm not going to pay that much.

I've bought some off ebay for reasonable prices. I was buying the entire year at the P and D mints or 8 total coins in UNC condition for $15.99 including shipping. You can also find good prices at a coin show if you have one in your area.

Check with some of the local banks to see if they have past issues that are still unc. I've even found 2000 SACs that are truly unc in mixed rolls. I think the FED is mixing them these days. You can always buy a roll and spend the ones that don't meet your needs.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that my bank never seems to have them.

Find a collector here with some extras?? Maybe a post with the list of dates you need in the Open Forum?? My post office seems to have them pretty often too, maybe check yours? I'd probably try a few more banks in your area too.

Been quite successful with my neighborhood banks. One manager calls me when they received rolls from the FED. She still has the George Washington's in stock. I usually get 4 rolls of the dollars, keep one, and circulate the rest with pub. trans. or local merchants.

Ok. Thanks guys. I'm sure I can track them down with a little effort.

That is a good deal. i do believe these are Satin Finish coins instead of business strikes. It probably depends on what you like.
Some probably like the thrill of hunt of finding the coins instead of just buying. I've given this scenario to others who ask - its like Deer Hunting - you have to get your gun, bullets, license, clothes, stay outside in the cold for hours, might have to go out other days, if you do get a deer, you have to drag it from the woods, you get the picture........ or i could just go and buy some venison...... so its in the eye of the beholder what its worth. Oh sure, the first couple years, I hunted each issue down but now as distribution has fallen off, it's just not worth the effort. My time is more valuable than spending hours driving from bank to bank, only to be told no and getting angry looks. The 2 banks in my area that used to get them stopped due to lack of demand. I prefer the satin finish anyway so I'm now thankful for the one stop shopping. Going from bank to bank you still won't get both mint marks so that's another negative to that route.

For those with more time on their hands, enjoy the snipe hunt. :mouth:
