Thanks Meilefu for the info and Raider for the map! Looking really forward to this one, only a few more days
It is held at the Westchester County Convention Center. It is something like exit #3 for route 100 off of I-287. It might be exit #5. Here is the link: http://www.westchestergov.com/calendar/ccorgcalquery.asp Very best regards, collect89
Planning on going, as it will be my first real coin show! Still figuring out which day depending on my ride there, but Sunday looks promising so far. Haven't decided on that part yet, but if it's free it's worth it!
Sasha, it's definitly free! Parking is free this year too. (unless you have them valet your car) If I don't see everything on Saturday, but more importantly if I don't spend all my money on Saturday, I might go back Sunday...don't know yet! Thanks Collect. I doubt I will have enough cash left over after CoinFest to get to that one too, but it doesn't hurt to know about it. One of these months I'll make it down to the Parsippany show too, I used to go to a different event at Parsippany but it moved to Wayne, non coin related however. CoinFest is going to have an Internet Coin Forum members meeting on Saturday, at 2:30 PM. This is news to me, I just found out about it earlier today. That should be a great way to meet the other people you may know by a screen name only!
More accurately, CAC will evaluate up to 20 coins for collectors at no charge. There is no way to know how many will receive stickers. I will be at the show on Friday and on Saturday will be reviewing coins for CAC.
Oh I know it's free, otherwise I wouldn't be able to go! I'm not driving though, so there's that factor too. Saturday would be good, but I want that medal they are giving out on Sunday to the first 100 ppl through the door lol. I'll make the decision by middle of next week. I might have work Saturday too, but that's usually evenings. Ideally I'd want to stay over between saturday-sunday, but that's just not affordable for me.
That is one of the reasons I am not staying over, too. It would have cost more then $300 for the room, yikes. That is too much. That's a lot more I could have spent on the bourse, or even on more important things like food or bills! I've never stayed at a fancy place like that before...I was shocked with how much it would have been (and the $100 surcharge I found outrageous!) I could have afforded the room...but chose not to. Good luck either way
I'm hoping to go. Not sure yet if it will be sat or sun. I went to the Whitman Coin Expo in philly last weekend (sat) and most dealers were already packing up. So that show was a waste of my time any expense to travel there for the day. Hope CT is better. Jim
Well, I said as time got closer I would post my face on here...I've said before I have a unique look...May not be much to look at, but for better or worse, here I am...Say hello if you see me!
It's 5:06 AM, I will be leaving in about 2 hours. I'm excited, just a little bit nervous, but overall....just wondering what I will see today. With this being my first coin show I have no idea what to expect...I can't wait!!
Got back from the show about an hour ago. I-95 was a parking lot for the folks heading up Stanford way so I hope you guys heading out late made it through that congested area with no mishaps. I'll give you guys and gals my take on the show later this evening.....
Got up at the crack o' dawn for this one. Anticipation was in the air. Real big show. Exciting, unlike the NY International Numismatic convention which I attended in January, this show would be devoted to my primary interest, US coins. 5:30 AM. Headin' out. Son-in-law Chuck and I hit the road and, along the way, stop off the pick up Frank (Treashunt). Franks got a load o' slabs he want the boys at Certified Acceptance Corporation (CAC) to take a look at. Today at Coin Fest you can submit up to 20 coins (free of charge) for consideration for that coveted little green sticker. We arrive in Stamford at 7:30. Plenty of time to make the 8 am seminar hosted by John Albanese of CAC. There, at the seminar we hook up with Mike (Raider34). Mikes' got a coin he wants the boys at CAC to consider for green sticker status. Myself, being mostly a "modern" guy have but one slabbed specimen (PCGS 1864 Large Motto 2 cent ms-63 R/B) to submit for green sticker consideration (CAC doesn't sticker moderns or bullion items). John Albanese gave a really interesting talk on the background and merits of his company and then allowed for a question and answer session. The seminar ran for about an hour and afterwards we got the paperwork needed to submit the coins we had brought with us. The show opened at 10 am at which time we were able to drop off our submissions with the folks at CAC and then enjoy the bourse arena. It was a fairly large show with 150 dealers offering a wide and varied product line. I was in the market for a '21 Peace Dollar but everything that I seemed to come across was either a tad too expensive or just below my grade expectations price wise. Frank steered me clear of a few dogs I was tempted on. The show itself, at least to me, didn't seem that well attended. I expected a larger turnout but maybe that was because we were there in the early part of the day and left by 2pm. Prices (MHO) were high and I walked out basically empty handed save for a few freebies. Oh, and those little green sticker thingies? We all scored. Frank walked away with eight or nine stickered slabs and Mike and I each got our slabs "greenied". All in all I'd say we had a pretty good day.......
I spent roughly 8 hours with John Albanese and one other gentleman reviewing coins for CAC today and believe I remember your Two Cent Piece. If it is the one I'm thinking of, I liked it. I was at John's talk too, and was sitting in the first row, in the first seat right of center. Sorry I missed you there.
We were probably about 3 or 4 rows right behind you (I was in the Yankee jersey). I got my 84CC MS66 CAC'd so I was very happy with that. As for the show, I agree with Ken. I say the crowd was moderate, nothing really big, but I wouldn't call it small. Didn't find what I was looking for, damn prooflike Morgans lol. I did get to see some real nice coins though, plus me and Frank got to hold a nice $25,000 Morgan by accident , that was fun too. Overall I would call it a pretty good show.
My report is now in it's own, new thread....Sorry I missed most of you, I only got to meet Mark and Ken. I had a GREAT time...see new thread for more info
Shoot Mark, I'm sorry too. I was hoping to run into you at the CAC table but no go. AS Mike stated we were in the back row of the seminar. Maybe sometime in the future?
My show report copied from another CoinTalk thread. At CoinFest I met up with MANY old friends but not one CoinTalker attendee! Everyone had a big round name badge sticker on their shirt. Mine had a bright green-colored label stating "Do You CoinTalk ?". One dealer saw the sticker & said he was a CT member. I sold a PF63 Barber dime & purchased a really nice AU Great Britain 2-Pence Cartwheel. The cartwheel has perfect edges and razor sharp details. I also renewed my membership with PCGS at the show & submitted some coins. (NGC was not at the show). At 10am there were about 10 people in line to get CAC stickers. The line grew & grew to the point where CAC had to cut off the free submissions. I found two coins for my Liberty nickel collection. I just need to find the money to pay for them now. I drove an elderly friend to the show & we both had a great time.
