    Precisely.

If it weren't for the crumbling domestic and world economy, there would not be this run on PMs. Folks are running scared and buying tangible PMs in the hopes that they hold thier value as folks paper dollars become more worthless every day.

Wow..Just got this message from the mint. Hard to believe they are not even making proofs for 2009

    Dear United States Mint Customer,

Production of the United States Mint American Eagle Silver Proof and
Uncirculated Coins was suspended this year because of unprecedented
demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. All available silver
bullion blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle Silver Bullion
Coin Program, as the United States Mint is required by Public Law 99-61
to produce these coins "in quantities sufficient to meet public demand
    ..."

The United States Mint will resume the American Eagle Silver Proof and
Uncirculated Coin Programs once sufficient inventories of silver
bullion blanks can be acquired to meet market demand for all three
American Eagle Silver Coin products. However, due to the continued,
sustained demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins, 2009-dated
American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins will not be
    produced.

You do not need to re-subscribe to the 2010 American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coin Programs. Prices may change during the course of your subscription. Should the price change for the 2010 coins, the new prices will be listed on your 30-day pre-fulfillment notification.
    Please review your notification carefully.

I don't understand why problems in the economy and the real-estate market would preclude the management of the U.S. Mint from finding a way to set aside a few hundred thousand blanks amid the millions and millions of ounces of bullion eagles they're selling.

This really is quite a shame, to interrupt the run of the proof ASE. I also just checked on my several-times-a-week update. I've been upping my subscription every year, so the further on it went, the more excited I got. I was thinking, woo-hoo, keep a few of each for me, and sell the rest at ridiculous markup to help pay for my wedding :D

    I strongly disagree.

This is no different then any other business. You work with your suppliers to meet any demand. No one to blame but the mint and the verbiage they use is nothing but a cop-out in my opinion.

I know a thing or two about working with suppliers and this was just poor planning on their part. They cannot blame congress for poor inventory planning. The only fault of congress is not passing a law that requires the mint to do a better job meeting demand.

If they cannot request more blanks from the supplier then that's their poor supplier management issues. It all goes back to the mint. Unless there is a law that says they cannot buy more than a certain amount of blanks - I don't buy pushing the blame off on anyone else. I have never met a supplier that has said "I cannot make that many for you." If you order them, they will find a way to make it happen - especially in this economy. If you have a supplier that cannot meet the demand then you either work with the supplier to improve or add suppliers. Still goes back to the mint managing their suppliers.

take a trip back thru history, there were many years when some coins were not minted, I am a bit surprised with this economy that they are minting any business strikes at all.

I was kind of hoping that the mint would fulfill the subscription orders only. That would make the Proof and Burnished 2009 W's really in demand. You'd think they could mint some of them to satisfy their obligation to their customers. Especilly the ones who have a subscription.

The US Mint really sucks for doing this. Now, there'll be a run on any 2009 ASE because so many were waiting for the "W"s to show up. They're already over $20 in the magazine ads.

Enlighten me again Doug. Why is it my fault. I'm not the one demanding that the mint produce "tons" o' bullion coins. I'm just a humble collector. With all of the programs the mint runs they can't make room for this very popular series this year? I just don't buy the "oh we've got a contract with a particular supplier and there are just so many blanks to go around". Hog wash. They could make room for this one. I just can't believe that the mint can't produce just a couple o' hundred thousand proofs/"W" Uncerc's for collectors when they're producing "millions" for the so called public demand. Just don't wash with me.....

Maybe if the US mint wasn't wasting time, effort, and money minting the first spouse gold coins they would have the resources to mint proof silver eagles which are a much more popular and desirable issue. I understand blank shortage... and whatnot... but im sure there are more companies that the government could contract to produce planchets using the resources that are being put into those awful ill conceived first spouse coins.

I was hoping to find out about this also. So far my subscriptions for the 2009 ASEs (I had two separate ASE subscriptions under the same account) have not been removed. I assume the subscription stays on your account until you cancel it and the next years products will be sent to you under your terms of subscription. so probably no need to cancel.
