I've noticed dots on some world notes like this note from Ecuador:

    And this note from Canada:

Are these dots are a security measure for the notes?

    Clay...

I have been looking at specific World Notes as well in an attempt to pre-study some notes from Canada. I have seen these dots as well on many notes from many countries...at this point in time, I do not knowfor sure but suspect that they are a security measure of some form.

Nice notes (especially the Canadian:kewl:) firstoff! And yes they are a security measure. I think that the dots are actually little physical dots that are placed in the middle of the paper (like inbetween both sides of the note if that makes sense, hard to explain). Not 100% sure as there is not much info on it, but that's what i've heard.

They are called planchets and have been used as a security device for many years similar to the silk threads that are also evident in the Ecuador note pictured above.

I agree , they are security measures and some of the new scanners and/or all in one printers will not scan these notes with the security features !!
There are a few threads on this here and there !!

What you mean are the Eurion dots, those are more recent and a little different: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EURion_constellation But I am pretty that the dots we have here are some kind of security feature as well. :)

If they are a security measure, they should be made into a recognizable pattern on each denomination so that blind folks can read them.
