@Mountain Man - to be honest with you, i wanted to get opinions from you guys because I trust your knowledge. You guys are essentially my teachers and I wanted to see if I was learning anything. And you were partially right about them being impulse buys. I walked into the coin shop not knowing exactly what I wanted. However, I asked the lady a few questions about the few that caught my eye and then made my decision based on the information she gave me. For the bills, I did a little bit of research but I only managed to find something that said that particular type of serial number could possibly be valued between $25 and $50. I based my bid’s off of that. I gave myself a limit and stuck with it. (I actually spent $7 less than I allotted myself!) The only remorse I have is that I didn’t have the ability to buy more of the coins that I wanted!!

Like what, a good buy? I guess I’m not understanding what you’re learning. I do think he’s right, you were having buyer’s remorse. That’s nothing to be ashamed of. You didn’t know what you were doing, now you know.

    Good sentiments !!

If you are willing to spend a bit more you can get some really interesting bills -- graded, too -- from the Weekly Heritage auctions. Some cool serial numbers there. Plenty of stuff < $100.

Super-low serial numbers or other fancy numbers will cost you hundreds or thousands if you want to play in that sandbox in a few years.

The last I looked we’re here for people who want to learn how to collect coins not learn whether they’re making good investments in coins. Maybe that’s not how it is anymore.

@eddiespin if you look at my definition of investment, it is not to profit from the coins I collect. I invest in them because I enjoy looking at them and learning about them. If I didn’t want to learn anything about them, I wouldn’t be a member of this site and I surely would not be asking questions.

I'm not questioning what you want or why you may have joined here, you said you just learned something, I don't know what but that you didn't get burned on an investment, that's all I meant.

If you are intrigued by paper money serial numbers, scrape together $100 and buy a strap (100 notes) of singles from your local bank. Search through them and remove any that peak your fancy, replace them with ordinary singles and return them to the bank. While you are there get another strap to replace the one you just turned in. The notes you keep cost you face value, and the bank will typically not not give you a hassle for only $100. The search is fun and doesn't cost you anything.

Coin collecting is my hobby. I do it because I enjoy it. Like you, I don't care if I paid more than "market" value. I buy what I like/ want, and, most importantly, what I can afford. And, you've already stated that you enjoy looking at them, so I think you made a great buy! I love history and get great enjoyment from my coins. I like circulated coins that have "been around the block". Coins that have made history. Happy collecting what you enjoy, with a smile on your face!

I don't think I said anything that contradicts that.
