Got a couple of things as I had some cash in my PayPal account and didn't want to blow it on TOTAL garbage I usually buy online. So here's a few things I got: - 1986 Commemorative Ellis Island Half "MS+++"- under $6.00 with shipping Pics look good but blurry, so let's see how "MS++" it is when I get it. Bought mainly for "ohhh shiny = wanty" rather then "oh my that's a good investment". - 1963 Mint set, no envelope, $18.00 with shipping. Might have gotten a good deal on this one, depending on how it looks when I have it actually in hand. How'd ya'll think I did?
I love eBay, even though there are plenty here who dont. I recently bought a handful of ms65/66 ft roosevelt dimes mid-1950's and they were a great buy. hope you have the same luck with your coins.... Jim
Doesn't sound like you did too bad there. Of course, it's hard to say for sure until we see pictures as value of any coin is highly dependent on condition and eye appeal. That said, I've seen those '86 statue of liberty halves at shows anywhere from $4-$5 all the way up to $10 each. So if you think you got one that looks good, you probably did ok. The coin goes for $4-$4.50 in the latest greysheet I have (page 3B of the Weekly). The '63 Mint set is $21-$23 in the latest greysheet that I have (page 7 of the Weekly) but those prices presume all original packaging. Again, if the coins look good then you did alright Should have told us you had some extra cash in your PayPal account, you could have always bid on my current listings
Yeah Statue of Lib. was just a cheap buy of a coin I have never seen and the price was ridiculously right compared to the picture. The Mint set I'm going to inspect in detail as I have a feeling the Franklin Half is going to rate high. I never understood the "original packaging" deal with mint sets, it's just a cheap white paper envelope that gets crusty when stored by most people. I have an old Whitman album for mint/proof sets and I want to stick the '63 in there so it's not all empty and sad. Unless any of the coins require a slabbing! What's your ebay link, I'll take a look at what you have! And no more random spending until the weekend for me. Maybee one or two more things
A lot depends (imo) on why your buying the coins. If you're filling holes in collections, buying them as presents, or they have a particular meaning to you...then you did pretty well! :thumb: Sometimes it's tough to find what you're looking for. I'll pay a premium for a tough coin I really want. If you're looking for "value" coins...coins you can flip for a profit...well, maybe not as good. It's getting harder to find "values" on eBay, but they're still out there if you have the time to hunt for them (watch out for counterfeits!!!) Here's a coin I bought for my nephew's 6th birthday. He collects state quarters (I think the part he likes the most is people giving him money!) I was looking for a coin 100 years older than him that he wouldn't destroy...and that might appreciate over time. I paid $68 + $2.95 S&H. The PCGS price guide lists it at $80. It wasn't a great "value" buy , but it was what I was looking for...so it was a good buy for me.
Ebay helps me center my Chi once I've gone through 2 boxes of halves and only come up with a few 40%'s.... and now winning (4) 1976 S-mint 3 piece proof sets for $19.51 makes me feel SOOO warn amd toasty. Ebay will help you make those "bad coin decisions" Now I can end my day with dignity.
Just fine...especially if you like the coins. I like the "shiny = wanty" - been there done that. My personal opinion on ebay is that you just need to know what you are getting into - or know what you are doing. Yes a lot of people dislike ebay mainly for the hucksters over there. I just find very few things to bid on.
