physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I would call it Fine by American standards.

British standards, maybe VG? I'm not so good with y'all's scale.

VG is an American standard. Its equivilent in the British grading lexicon would be 'Good Fair'.

But this coin is About Fine in any language I would say....

It catalogues in Spink for £10. £2 is more like it's intrinsic value in silver content....

Ok Dave, I would grade your coin American MS-8 and Euro VG. Here is a 1816 Shilling, the first year of Sterling standard. Traci

English silver coins had always been of the 'sterling' standard (except during temporary periods of debasement under spendthrift monarchs like Henry VIII (aka 'Old Coppernose' for the fact that the nose on his coin portraits was the first part to expose the poor standard of silver).

1816 was however, the first year that the 'silver' coinage of Great Britain had the dimensions that it kept until the early 90s, when the 5p (equivilent to an old shilling) was reduced in size to the diminuitive 5p we have today....

grade aside, I like the look of this coin. I see a lot of these tampered with - your first image has such an original appeal.

Love the way this design picks up age, almost like the bust developes shadows in the details. Very attractive.
