Not sure if this has been posted yet... I visited the mint site this am to do my periodic status check... Found this on both the Silver and Gold AE Proof pages... Update: Due to the continued, sustained demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins, 2009-dated American Eagle Silver Proof Coins will not be produced. Update: Due to the continued, sustained demand for American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins, 2009-dated American Eagle Gold Proof Coins will not be produced. I am not interested in Platinum, but looked at that page too...good news there... Update: 2009-dated American Eagle One Ounce Platinum Proof Coins are scheduled to go on sale in early December.
USMINT: No 2009 American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins. Just received from the USMINT via email subscription... The United States Mint will resume the American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coin Programs once sufficient inventories of silver bullion blanks can be acquired to meet market demand for all three American Eagle Silver Coin products. However, due to the continued, sustained demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins, 2009-dated American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins will not be produced.
I realize that the 09 uncriculateds were pretty heavily produced but I wonder if this will have any effect on their value.
I'm not happy about no silver proof ASEs yet. By law they have to make the bullion coins available. What a crock. I'm sure they could set aside a few blanks to make the proofs. No creativity on the part of the management. I sure hope that something is in the works before the end of the year, or at least some dated 2009 even if they wait 'til next year to make them. Thanks congress!
How is it with the collapse of the banking system, waves of real estate foreclosures, double digit unemployment, the world wide economy on the brink of collapse and you complain of "no creativity on the part of management"? These are seriously troubled times and many refuse to understand that. The issues here are much larger than simply a couple collector coins. Don't thank congress, thank the sub prime mortgage lenders that lent people money that they could never pay back.
Whoa! That's HUGE news!! So let me get this right....... when a lot of people want Eagles, the Mint says it won't produce them.
But they invited us to buy Gold Buffalos and Platinum Proof Eagles instead... and also $nuck in Mint offerings of AGE bullion too... a real Moy-$tick in the eye to the ASE lovers, budget minded collectors, YNs with small beginner aspirations, US silver coin collectors, etc out here... And now I have to fret over trying to get on board with a 2009 Buffalo. :rolling: I don't care about the Platinum personally. What a heck of a year this has been, is, and will continue to be...!
Ya know what? I think they want to save the silver that would normally go toward the uncirculated and proof programs for those 5 oz. hockey puck medals they're planning on selling next year.....
Well now I need to rethink my collection of ASE proofs. Who will want a collection where they start missing years? They would be better off to just end the run now. Hopefully Silvrluvr has it right and they will end up coming out with some, but I'm not holding my breath.
Exactly! I'm still gonna hold out hope that at the very end of next month they will pop out with a few thousand. Maybe they know about this forum and will contact us specifically to get orders wouldn't that be grand? Oh sorry about that verbal daydream, working for a living gets harder and harder every day. :secret:
Andrew, do you understand that the US Mint is a profitable enterprise that doesn't require taxpayer dollars?
Thats what I'm wondering..... Not enough silver for the Eagles but enough for the 5 oz rounds.....go figure. Will they fit in a Blue PCGS Box....., maybe with a little whittlin'. I'm not a ASE collector but the ones who are will be heard from....they are coming for you Mr.Moy....:mouth:
US Mint Pressroom: United States Mint to Offer 2009 American Buffalo Proof Gold and American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins Numismaster article: Breaking News: Eagles No, Buffaloes Yes
Doesn't have anything to do with silver not being available. It has to do with getting the blanks for the coins. They have a contract with a company and have to honor that contract. And if their vendor can't produce enough blanks for both, then they can't. The law says that the mint has to produce all the bullion coins that the public wants. So as long as demand exceeds supply - then there will be no special collector coins. Now who do you think is to blame for that ? You guessed it - you are. You want collector versions - then quit demanding so many bullion coins and they'll have the blanks to produce them.
