Hi All, On one of my websites, the owner of this coin asked me to verify that it is an error. He didn't like the response where in a pleasant and accurate way I explained why the coin is just a damaged 1 cent coin. Thanks, Bill http://cgi.ebay.com/1990-US-Cent-Copper-Plated-Zinc-Strike-Error_W0QQitemZ260485233683QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item3ca6213c13&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Ridiculous these eBay "Fantasy Camp Sellers" and their perpetual nonsense.... $301...for that? Get real!
Hi All, This was my response LOL I copied and pasted it right from my email to him I'm only a pain in the patoots, crochety, middle aged person for you guys and gals he asked for advice about price and if he should sell it on eBay. He also wanted to know if I knew anyone interested in the coin. Hi XXXXXXX, The odds are that you will not be thrilled with my advice but it is what it is. Your coin is just a damaged cent. It has had the copper layer artificially removed. It can be done electrically, chemically or with heat. All three possibilities occur routinely as science experiments in high school. The cupping is also post Mint damage as there is nothing at the Mint that would cause it to the extent that you have it on your coin. The coin is not a Mint Error but a tampered with , damaged coin and I would remove it from eBay immediately so that you do not hurt your reputation as a seller. I do not know anyone interested in damaged coins. I am truly sorry to be the bearer of this news but the coin is only worth 1 cent. Thanks, Bill
That must have one of the " I received a few really ignorant comments about this coin". And yet he adds, " One way or another it's a strike error, I didn't damage it. Coins aren't supposed to be intentionally damaged. There are no signs of intentional damage on the coin. Quite the opposite, there's a die perimeter tool mark on both sides. " die perimeter tool? Does he mean a vise?
Well, the totality of comments received got him to drop the opening bid to the point that now you can bid only 3,490 x value (including s/h of course). Needless to say, the "1950s TV" filter on this website prevents giving an accurate description of the seller.
I know who the seller is he emailed me first, remember He is clueless. If he sells it though, he won't get a charge back as the knucklehead that would buy it would be a newbie getting scammed.
I did not realize you two discussed this coin before it was posted to eBay. You were just trying to spare him a lot of unnecessary work over a damaged coin. :headbang:
