I am thinking of buying this coin in a PCGS holder for $45.00 is it worth buying or should I pass? its a 2004-W PCGS pr70 DCAM silver eagle. I know $45.00 is a lot higher then the silver in the coin but it sure is good looking! Also I noticed these numbers POP 538/0 but cant make heads or tails as to their meaning! I think they have something to do with the population numbers of the coin. Someone please translate for me! THANKS!
Right now on Teletrade they have 2001, 2002 and 2003 PGS pr-70 dcam going for over $100 each. The mint sells them for 31 each (when in stock) and it would cost $15 - $25 to get it graded, with no guarantee you got a pr-70. It may be worth it.
POP 538/0 538 "coins" have been graded at PR70 DCAM and 0 (zero) have graded higher. MS70 or PR70 are the top grades a coin can receive.
And what does pop 500/0 meen? Never mind you posted the answer at the same time I posted the question THANKS! is that POP # considerd low?
Is POP 538/0 considered low for a PR70 DCAM ASE? I don't know. You might ask on the U.S. Coins Forum.
pcgs uses the best plastic and their slabbed coins are always worth more. I can't tell the difference between a 69 and 70, and I sometimes wonder if a 70 actually exists.
I guess the key is that the price is reasonable in the current market and if you like it go for it. The population could change drastically if someone submitted a bunch of MS70 2004W ASEs. Could happen. Likely? Nah.
I would pay 45 in a heartbeat considering silver content and the coin is graded and in the Highest grade achievable.
nice very nice .and just think how many time you will be able to take this out to look at!!!!!! worth every penny...
