OK I'd love it to be done on the half-dollar, but thats not gonna happen. So heres what I'd like to see happen:

Return the washington quarter to as it was pre-1999 State quarters. So any one that wants to collect just that type series can continue.
Issue the new national park quarters as planned, but with a limited mintage for each. I think it would create a buzz for collectors, since the bulk of the quarters would be of the "original" design. What should the limit be.... maybe 5million per mint, per design. That might even give the coin a chance to be worth something in the future.....
    Any thoughts?

Would 5 million per mint do more than satisfy those who purchase proofs and unc sets? I do not know at what point modern mintage makes a coin scarce or semikey, but if people percieve something is rare they will hoard it wether or not it is rare.

Yup, yup...don't see Congress going for that. They want to get these coins in the hands of kids for "educational" purposes (imho).

I'm glad to see them going back to the original Washington head design, but I would have really rather they used Theodore Roosevelt's bust on the Obverse. He was the driving force behind the National Parks and Monuments...plus, he's the only Mt. Rushmore dude not on a coin!

As I mentioned on another post, I would vote for an animal or bird to be obverse the national parks. It seems like national parks were created as a safe habitat for them. How about a turkey? You haven't seen many turkeys on coins. It would also go well with the coins to our north. I'll trade ya a looney for a turkey!

.......TURKEY!! you sound like ben franklin!

  7. I would LOVE to get some turkey coins! Just think...if Ben Franklin had gotten his way, it would have a Flying Turkey cent, a Silver Turkey, etc, people would be looking for different numbers of turkey feathers on Morgans and Sacs...I wish!!

I have a strange fascination with turkeys.

And we could have REO Speedwagon play the flying turkey trot on the release date of the coin. I always loved that song from their double live album.

I've seen a lot of turkeys on coins, and the mint is issuing a whole series of dollars with a LOT of turkeys on them :D

Well, we will get a version of George Washington on the obverse that is more similar to the original 1932 design, but low relief. That means the "spaghetti hair" will be gone. Yeah!

Don't bet on it. The legislation for the 2009 cents required them to use the original Brenner design and relief as it appeared on the 1909 cents. Look at a 2009 cent and tell me, did we get it?

I really think that would be better than all the stuff now on our coins. Everyone is constantly mentioning about endangered species so why not commemorate our US Animals. We started with the Eagle so why not all the others?
